Here are the qualifiers for the Finals in Leipzig. First Finals to be staged since Gothenburg 2019.

 

Pretty sure :SYR :UZB will be making their debuts. :LTU :GRE :FIN are back after a while.

Was Canada not eligible in the North American League? I thought Tiffany Foster would have enough points...

Foster, Ballard and Mannix all earned enough points to qualify, but looks like neither were interested to take up their spots.

 

North American League is held predominantly outdoors, as opposed to the WEL and the Finals which are staged on tight indoor courses. That's why the North Americans (most of all Canadians, Mexicans and everyone from the West Coast) are sometimes hesitant to pursue the Finals. Still, Foster did well at indoor shows too in Lexington and Fort Worth, so her withdrawal can be considered surprising.

Competition started with the speed round today. :SUI Martin Fuchs took the win, ahead of :AUT Max Kuhner and :IRL Conor Swail. Disaster for the defending champion :SUI Steve Guerdat who could only manage 25th. Surely he will not be taking another title here in Leipzig.

 

Tragedy for :LTU Petrovas who had the last fence down. In the final analysis that dropped him from 4th to 14th. Still :yes - but could have been :hyper:.

      I am assuming the FIS will fight very hard to keep it.   From a substainability standpoint it also really doesn’t make that much sense to axe Nordic combined as long as ski jumping is in the games anyway. For the same reason that all three sliding sports are basically a package that will live and die together.

      I think Fialkova is 2nd on the World Cup all-time list for most podiums without a win.  Olena Petrova still leads there and  Marie-Laure Brunet is 3rd IIRC but I need to check that.

      I hope they keep it. Even though the sport doesn't exist in Slovakia at all, it's still very exciting to watch.

      will miss this stage because of the Middle East war, since the flights with Qatar Airways have been cancelled and can't be replaced in time (especially for the bicycles)
