Cancelled downhill in Santa Caterina

 

As forecasted, Santa Caterina woke up with very strong winds blowing all the way down the Deborah Compagnoni course. Nevertheless, there was hope this morning and the jury decided to hold the racers’ inspection and take the decision in the lastest possible moment.

 

After two delays (start was postponed to 12.15 and to 12.45 CET), the situation didn’t improve and the weather forecast announced no changes in the next hour. Unfortunately, the only option left was to cancel the downhill.

 

With two cancellations earlier this season (Lake Louise – rescheduled in Kvitfjell / Beaver Creek – rescheduled in Val d’Isère) and a very tight World Cup calendar, there is no further possibility to replace this downhill. So the 2016/17 season will now have eight downhills instead of nine.

I heard (our commentator) that there's a possibility to replace todays DH for tommorow Alpine Combined

Yeah, they better have the DH tomorrow. Ideally they would have the results from the DH count for the combined and have the slalom later, but there would be 2 problems with that. One, is that presumably not every slalom specialist has had a training on the course and two, they would think the DH course would be too tough for a combined...

Well... from the same source (so again, our commentator) I heard that Alpine Combined will be SuperG - slalom. Not DH - SL

Coralie Frasse Sombet, first to start in 2nd run is just climbing. Nothing new in alpine skiing.

I am 99% sure I already saw Super-G and slalom in the schedule 2 or 3 days ago

Because they want to see Coralie Frasse Sombet climbing from 30th position to top 5.

 

Seriously though, one apparently serious injury... Let's hope it's the only one...
