Slovenia handball team lost very weird opening match, full of odd judges decisions, against Macedonia. But, to be fair, our team managed to lost two important balls in the final stages, so main fault is on our side.  Today we play against Germany, whom we never beaten in official match. But, we also almost never beat Spain in basketball, but look what happened few months ago at Eurobasket.

Gremo naši !!!

Only Schladming (Men's SL) and Kronplatz (Ladies GS) to go, we will soon know, how many athletes is going to represent Slovenia at the Olympics.

I live only few kilometers away from one of our lugers. Slovenia had already two spots in Sochi, but because of our hockey expedition no one from luge went to Russia.

It is now almost certain Tilen Sirše will represent our country in Pyeongchang, fingers crossed.

It is quite similar to my own provisional list. Here are all changes:

- in Alpine Skiing Miha Hrobat was added to the list, because :SLO has 11 athletes in quota

- for Cross Country Skiing Einfalt or Slabanja could come through, they are waiting for international confirmation

- in Luge, finally wise decision. Two athletes (Sirše and Biruš) achieve international quota, but not national quota. Therefore it was decided better one (Sirše) will represent Slovenian luge in Pyeongchang.

- Ski jumping: coaches Goran Janus (Men) and Stane Baloh (Ladies) can pick 5 male and 4 female jumpers till end of this week freely

- in Snowboarding there is no Jure Hafner (first in waiting list-PGS), but there is Pribošič, though she also currently sits in first spot among reserves

One more fact to conclude:

- This will be the biggest expedition so far at Winter Olympics, but without Hockey team :SLO was repesented with 1 (one) more individual in Vancouver 2010.

    • In general, our picture for a little over 1 year until the home games looks like this:     - the women's sector is still based on one Lollo, who is 3 years older than 2022, - the women's and men's sprint sector is based on one Bosa and possibly the young Pergher (0% possobility for medal in 2026), - Ghiotto has made a lot of progress and that is a big plus. It could result in even 3 medals, including 1/2 gold. Our team's performance also depends to a large extent on Ghiotto's form, - the rest of the men's team is basically unchanged. There is Giovannoni in the mass start, there is Malfatti in the longer distances, but they are not competitors on the podium of a major event.   I will repeat myself: if Ghiotto continues to make such progress, we will probably win 3 medals, 2 of which gold and it will be a success. If something doesn`t work out, an injury, illness, etc. (we know from Vitozzi that this can happen to anyone), then it could be very bad

    • Today is a day without Italians in the leads positions. I`m worried that they are not trying to revive this our sprint. There is only one Bosa and he is old. Pergher is young but she is also only one. It is a pity. After the Olympics they will probably 100% give up on the entire sprint. Our medal bag in Cortina will depend 90% on Ghiotto, just like it did on Fabris in Turin 2006. If Ghiotto will be in goodshape, he can even win 2 individual golds + a team medal. If not, it will be a flop. Apart from him, only Lollobrigida can compete in the mass start and possibly Giovannini in the men's mass start.
    • Yup, actually they have just some juniors pairs in the dance event
    • In bed with the flu and few hours of sleep, but at least the insomnia will let me watch the first World Cup stage
    • The news then is that she has not yet been arrested? I suppose Camila when she returns to Italy will have a very unwelcome visit from the Guardia di Finanza.
