Watching some highlights of Omloop Nieuwsblad...dang. Crash after crash.  (I'm new to Road Cycling...is this normal?)

It seems to be.  Back when I started watching live cycling about 25 years ago, you only ever saw the final 50km of races, even for big events like the Tour de France.  So nothing much happened until the TV came on.  Now, with races being covered all day, riders think they have to go for it every single moment, so it is a lot more dangerous.

I imagine the roads being cobbled (and perhaps wet?) probably adds to the danger here.  Also, the roads seem quite narrow and not much room on the side of the road if you need to veer off course (vs. when they were in Australia and there was a little more space on the side).

This guy Paul Seixas at age 19 is certainly putting himself in the position of the Next Great  Hope for the Tour de France.  Never an easy title to.hold.
