OK, it's only the early rounds of the first competition of the year, but I've already had enough of those shitty Italian female Sabre specialists (only 2 qualified to the round of 32 and 1 already out at that stage, but, what's worse, it's how they lost their matches...no sign of improvement compared to the last seasons, when they've been unwatchable)

in the men's Sabre, another painful day is coming, with only 1 guy (and not the supposed no.1 or 2 of the team) in the round of 16

in the women's Foil, the Italian outsider Carlotta Ferrari defeated :USA Lee Kiefer in the round of 32 :yikes: meanwhile last season's newcomer of the year Anna Cristino went out in the round of 64

the top girls (Favaretto, Errigo, Palumbo), however, are safely through to the round of 16 so far

important news: as they like to win it easily, from this season Carolina Stutchbury represents the :USA

now their team is really a dream team

in the men's Foil, Tommaso Marini is already out (lost to Edoardo Luperi in the round of 32 :hairpull:), just like Filippo Macchi (lost to unknown :GBR Jamie Cook in the round of 64  :wall:)

still, we have 3 guys already in the round of 16 and a few more waiting to fence their match in the round of 32

not the start of the season I expected from our teams, but not necessarily a disaster yet (in foil, sabre is just another beast)

    • The tournament is over for Mathilde Fantin – unfortunately, a big loss for the Italy. Tomorrow we play a semifinal against France – if we win, we'll have a grand final against Hungary on Friday. Everything will be clear then, bacouse the final match against China should be a formality. In any case, we've already achieved our best result ever in our history, or at worst scenario – 3rd place in Division 1A.

    • Super runner, good guy, sadly never entirely recovered from ripping his leg to shreds in the act of going sub 10, but as you say a key relay man for the better part of a decade, and a European and World Champion, and a reminder that talent doesn't always come in obvious looking boxes -a breakthrough sprint athlete for many of middle eastern and north african heritage.

    • Duno. To me the most interesting question is the short term is whether Poilievre survives this or not. It will be tough for him to justify his leadership.
