Figure Skating at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Just finished watching it... So glad Chock and Bates had a good skate and that it wasn't necessarily mistakes that cost them the gold.  I was spellbound the first time I saw Cizeron/Beaudry's routine back in the Grand Prix, and personal details and judges' scores aside, their skating was beautiful tonight. This whole season I knew it was going to be razor thin, and that there was the possibility we'd end up 2nd...and I wanted gold for them...but alas, just wasn't to be.

Go :USA !

And hey...C&B get to take home a gold medal anyway. :)

I for one enjoyed the French dance, without carrying much about the backstage scandals. But as I mentioned, I'm just a bystander on this sport and not that connected with the athletes. Didn't look to me as a team, which is retiring, so the people who hate them better prepare for the coming years. :d

I don't like them, but not taking that into consideration their performance shouldn't have been enough for gold, Chock/Bates were better. But, if anyone who watches this sport on the regular wants to correct me, then feel free to :d

My god, it’s impressive how North American media can brainwash their audience. It’s been a whole week of them trying to tear them down.

There’s no game today, they’ve averaged 1.5 points overall, and yet people are still crying: “They shouldn’t have been allowed to participate!” or “The Olympics are rigged!”, come on.

America rigged at the Olympics? Seriously? LMAO

Cizeron might be the best athlete this sport has ever seen: 3 medals in a row. That says it all.

I followed the competition with an Italian commentary, and the commentators, while raving both programs*, agreed LFB and Cizeron are the better skaters overall (mostly because Cizeron is better than Bates) and ultimately deserved to have the edge. I don't really consider myself an expert and maybe I was conditioned by the commentary, but I felt the French program was better, although less original than the Americans'.

So imagine my astonishment when I entered this topic and found out that the general consensus is I had just witnessed a robbery :d

*They actually expressed some doubts about a couple of LFB/Cizeron's elements, but agreed there was no significant mistake upon review.

Also, while I'm a bit sad Guignard/Fabbri did not get to cap off their career with an Olympic medal, I have to say Gilles/Poirier's program was my favourite of the night (I'm only talking about the music/visual/performance combo, no technical judgment).

Honestly my main criticism of both CBC and NBC is that they’ve not covered why people dislike FB/C at all. They may vaguely allude to it at best. I guess both have a vested interest in not rocking the boat too much re: I. AM.

American media is far from perfect, but it’s certainly disappointing that they’ve swept it under the rug (at least the outlets carrying the Olympics). I don’t keep up with French media as much as I should but I’m assuming they have been pretty silent on this given past precedent with how the French media prefers to look the other way at things of that nature.

Unfortunately, a medal was out of their reach, but they've already had much better seasons in 2023 and 2024. If France hadn't returned this season with a naturalized Canadian at the last minute, we would have had that bronze medal today :( It was clear that if France returned, they must to win a medal, because that was the goal and they'd probably win gold in four years. I remember that our pair: Fusar-Poli/Margaglio also returned specifically in 2006 to the home games after four years, but we didn't win a medal there, because we clearly didn't have the same level of confidence as the French now.

Today was the first time I had heard anything of it from the commentators actually, and it was just an aside or a prelude to talk about how miraculous it is that they're skating so well after such a short time together.

From simply a performance perspective and my opinions:

I liked :GBR for how fun and stylized it was.

I liked :FRA for the emotion.

I liked :USA (because they're the best and) for how intense it was.  (And, as a Spanish teacher, I'm partial to paso dobles and matadors.) :)
