Unlike Paris the water is clean & translucent in Orkney :cheer: but it does sometimes have killer whales in it.  :nopompom:

Can someone tell me more about these games? Haven't heard it before. I don't seem to know these Islands .. And what is the criteria? There are many islands across the world with small population why are they not here?

This is sort of an FAQ put together by the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/c3r91g8llg9o.amp

And this is the group that oversees the Games from edition to edition: https://www.iiga.org

Many of them have associations with larger nations, such as Minorca (Spain), Gozo (Malta), Hitra (Norway), Åland (Finland), Orkney (Scotland/UK).

Originally founded by the smaller British, Commonwealth & Scandi Islands, they seem to be the most enthusiastic.  Other Islands can of course join, but according to the constitution the islands must have a population of below 125,000, which rules out Sicily, Corsica, Jamaica, Hokkaido, Manhattan etc etc.  Some other islands have been members in the past but are not active now - Rhodes, for one.

Outside of the football seemingly having a non functional clock. The streams seem to be a good quality

Some glitches to be worked out - the squash on-screen score was the same colour as the walls of the squash court, so could not be read.  :d

All the football streams had commentary from I guess local radio - if you want to heat what the Orkney accent sounds like, that older guy on the comms has a very good one!

Athletics takes the feed from the stadium commentator nice and clear.  Sadly the camera people got completely and hopelessly lost during the 10000m last night.  :p

Streaming performances improved today, lot clearer.  Whoever's in charge of the athletics coverage raised their game.   Swimming finals session tonight very well done, good commentary and lots of tight racing.

Women's 100m butterfly final was particularly fun :cheer:

Corrin Leeming :IOM became the first man to run under the 30-minute mark in the men's 10,000m at the Island Games, lapping the entire field once (and not far from twice) to do :hyper:

    • Serbia- Italy 0-6   I don't know how tjis Serbia can to draw 0-0 with Sweden at home... I have the impression that Sweden plays its best matches against Italy and is weak in the rest? However, 1 place in this group will be difficult to do and we won't avoid a playoff spot for spot on the World Cup. If we're to dream of first place, we absolutely must win in Denmark on Saturday.
    • However it's Antoni Kowalski who becomes the first  player to qualify for the Crucible TV phase after beating  Jamie Jones 10-8 in the last Q round!
    • These stats are ridiculous.  I think ElShorbagy and ElSherbini are still in the Top 10 now.   (By comparison, 15 years is also the time span since Katie Ledecky has lost a 1500m race.)   Source: PSA Facebook
    • And another incredible performance for us in judo, is like this sport literally revived.
    • wins 3-2 and also missed a penalty. Poland's chances have been reduced so much they basically have to win in Dublin in four days time.
