• Position in the initial pool
• Winning percentage in the pool
• Runs allowed per defensive out in the pool (a statistic often used as a tiebreaker)
• Batting average in the pool
• Drawing of lots if necessary

Not sure if I'm nagging too much on this, but this actually regards ONLY to a first round tiebreaker. Even on the webpage of MLB referenced by this article it clearly says:

 

"Pool Play and Tie-Breaking Procedures:

First Round"

 

it does't say anything regarding FINAL STANDINGS.

 

My take on this is that MLB probably doesn't care much for that and it didn't realise it would be so important fot Olympic qualification (if so: they're stupid, for sure).

If we had a clear rule, the MLB it would already have posted something regarding that...

But hasn't both Canada and Puerto Rico suffered 15 runs in 135 allowed? Sorry if i'm being too stupid, baseball is not my strongest sport.

Those are runs. Canada and Puerto Rico are both tied.

 

EARNED RUNS are runs that are scored that aren't the result of a fielding error. Canada has allowed 3 fewer earned runs than Puerto Rico.

 

So for example, if a runner gets on base because a shortstop misses a throw to first base and then that runner scores, then that's counted as an UNEARNED run.
