BTW, I was in Lutsk in Ukraine in 2018, during the Men's Volleyball World Championships and no one there was interested them. I had to search online broadcast for the match Italy-Poland.

I would say volleyball was not very popular in Ukraine.
Of course, football is at the very top. But in Soviet times women`s handball, for example, was much stronger than volleyball.

The other thing - our national sport broadcasters (not talking about specialized football channels) were awful at that time.
Sport at TV was chaotic badly commented and did not attract the audience and newcomers to sport clubs.

The situation has changed seriousely in last 5 years. Now ous national public TV has its own sports channel and a lot of online streaming for the events which take place parallely. For example, they provide on Youtube commented streams of single events at the Athletics World Chmaps.

By the way our TV broadcasted the game Belgium - Italy. So we have progress ))

The only thing which is still discussed as problematic is the quality of commentators )))
For example, the commentator of volleyball did not know that wins are more important than points in standings ))

I don't like a play-off bracket here. There cant be any team vs any team final. Even worse, you know that each semi-finalists must be one of group of 8 teams. Not good at all.

They were probably shocked by Italy's terrible performance yesterday?

Btw., in Ukraine and Poland are play players with the same surname: Semeniuk, but they are in any case not related familiary? Semeniuk, doesn`t it sound like a Polish surname, but rather to the east, right?

They are not related and yes, Semeniuk is a surname with the Ukrainian origins. The south-eastern part of Poland, the Eastern Galicia with the city of Lviv where the Ukrainian Semeniuk was born, before WWII was mostly Ukrainian. After WWII many people from that area migrated or were moved to the western Poland.

The best title of this tournament would be:

if you are a fan of good volleyball you will enjoy

if you are a big supporter of a certain team you will have a stroke  😂

@copravolley I just may add tat Semeniuk is a surname which inf general means "the son of Semen". Semen is a widely spread name in Ukraine.
It is a form of the name Simeon. Its Polish form is Szymon.

Nobody in Ukraine expected that Beldium could win. So our team "was sent home" by the fans just after the game against Belgium.

Our coach:

To beat Italy, we need to play better in defense, and in attack be on the same level as them," the Argentine told Suspilne Sport. "But they are four-time world champions. They have a very big history. The Italian league is one of the best in the world."

"We have to give our best. If the Italians win — compliments to their coach. But I want to reassure people in Ukraine: we will give everything we possibly can."
