The Road to LA '28 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

So I know we're all still basking in the glow of Paris but it's never too early to start thinking about the next games.

We probably wont have the qualification pathways for LA until late 2025 or early 2026 but in the intervening period, I am going to be using live events to model the quotas.

Time for first simulation for 2028 - Track Cycling :cycling:

Typical qualification for track cycling runs for 2 years and comprises 1 World Championship, 2 Continental Championship and top 4 results from Nations Cup (max 2 per year).

This simulation is based on the results from 2024 Nations Cup and the 2024 Continental Championships:

Team GB and :CAN would be the only nations taking a full squad.

Next Update - UCI Track World Championships 16-Oct.

New Projection - Men's Triathlon :swimming: :cycling::running:

Typical qualification window runs for 2 year period with athletes able to count their top 12 results with a maximum of 6 events counting from the first year and a maximum of 8 events from the second year.

This projection is based on the athletes 6 best results from May '23 - May '24 (period 1) and, for those who have competed, the results since then (period 2).

Australia and New Zealand emerge as early winners, picking up an additional quota whilst Spain drops back to just 2 spots.

From :GBR perspective, although they are not yet in a position to take a 3rd quota on the men's side, it does look like some of our younger athletes are beginning to move up to the World Cup and WTCS level events.

On an adjusted basis, Max Stapley would be sitting 35th in the Olympic ranking with Barclay Izzard at 51st and Hugo Milner at 58th.

Next Event: A couple of World Cup events will be held early in September before the WTCS returns with events in Weihai (27-Sep) and the WTCS Finals in Andalucia (17-Oct)

U23 Rowing World Championships

Women Double Sculls 4th > Rep
Men Double Sculls 3rd > SF
Women's Four 1st > SF
Men's Four 1st > SF
Men's Quad 5th > Rep
Men's Eight 2nd > Final
Women's Eight > Final

There wasn't any commentary on the stream, from what i saw the men's 8 would have won their race (which was a seeding race) if it was 2010m, they had a slow start and came right back through the field.

The men's quad were disappointing, almost so that something may have happened to them off screen because they dropped like a stone.

Still, only two boats having to go in the rep, a good day, these will likely be the crews that will develop for the next cycle so it's worth seeing how they go this week :)

Edit: I had it on youtube, world rowing is the channel, if anyone wants to watch the rest this week

U23/ World Championship Day 2

So looks like we haven't sent any lightweight rowing crews at all, which makes sense since its dead at Olympic level, also no single scull boats in U23 which like in the Olympics always saddens me, i know our best rowers make the big crews but would still like to see some representation as i enjoy the event

Women's Pair 2nd > Final
Men's Pair 4th > Rep
Women's Quad 2nd > Final

Women's Double Rep 4th > B Final (this is the first crew eliminated)
Men's Quad Rep 1st > SF (these looked awful in the first round, miles better today)
Men's Pair Rep 2nd > SF (two races in one day....ouch)

Senior. Pretty sure this is our only competitor out there.

Women's lightweight single sculls 3rd > Rep

Our strength in depth in rowing as opposed to sculls in the Olympics boats looks set to continue with five golds. Hopefully the top U23s can be integrated into the squad as seamlessly as possible once they know which members of the team in Paris plan to continue onto LA.

I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.
