I don't think it's impossible they've picked Waugh as having more long term potential, and Sophie is appealling.

Apparently there was an appeal and it went in Waugh's favour.  Otherwise men's team is Yee & Dickenson, no Brownlee.  Then Potter, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Waugh.

Guess I was spot on. Can't imagine Coldwell got initial call and Waugh overturned it, the two were so close either was justifiable - which makes me think my original call was bang on. Tough on Codwel, but I think Waugh is probably a better future bet....

Seems like a very harsh call on Sophie. They both had a fair chance to prove who right now is the better athlete and that was Sophie.

Maybe they feel they don’t need 3 bullets with GTB back to health and Beth being Beth, and rather can focus on the future.

it will be a good experience for Kate and hopefully she can mix it with the front group!

World Triathlon Championship Series kicks off in Abu Dhabi later this month and the entry lists are up. It doesn't look like it will be the strongest international field - definitely missing some of the big :FRA and :GBR names.

It will be interesting to see whether any of the GB guys can come through to join Yee in the top tier.

Women's Entry:

Kate Waugh

Men's Entries:

Hugo Milner

Harry Leleu

Ben Dijkstra

Max Stapley

British Triathlon have confirmed the athletes on their World Class Programme for 2025:

Men's Squad:

Alex Yee

Sam Dickinson

Connor Bentley

Hugo Milner

Barclay Izzard

Dan Dixon

Women's Squad:

Beth Potter

Georgia Taylor-Brown

Sophie Coldwell

Kate Waugh

Olivia Mathias

Jess Fullagar

Sophie Alden

Tilly Anema

Vicky Holland leaves the programme after her decision to retire whilst Jonny Brownlee also leaves the programme after putting in sterling service to the sport in the UK.

Jess Learmouth and Jack Willis will also drop out of the programme.

We should hear later about any additions to the squad - I am a bit surprised not to see Max Stapley on the squad given he is the British number 3 and is ranked 30th in the world.

1. Of course, after that who Lottry funded set are announced, it's the unfunded  Djikstra who is top Brit, with the unfunded Stapely second brit.

2. Putting WTCS behind a homegrown paywall is disastrous. Had no idea the season started this weekend, and much as I like the sport, I'm not paying a premium for it. Lot of short sidghted decisions recently in this field - see also the death of Eurosport.

I don't think the performance squad is finalised yet. GB Triathlon have confirmed the athletes who have been retained on the program but haven't announced any additions yet. I would expect to see Stapely move on to the performance pathway in the next announcement

Looks like Alex Yee will return to competition at the WTCS event in the French Riviera at the end of this month. He will be joined by Connor Bentley, Hugo Milner and Ben Dijkstra.

On the women's side, Beth Potter is on the start list along with Sian Rainsley, Olivia Mathias and Jess Fullagar.

    • I will try for Croatia:    Archery (1) : we never had a representative, but were two times very close. I think we have a chance in Recurve for a single male quota, and in mixed compound,  Realistic one quota    Athletics (8) : difficult as many things will change in the next 2-3 seasons, but let's. say 8, I think that could be a realistic number   Badminton (1) : hopefully our Indonesian import will manage to qualify     Basketball (0): small chances in both male and 3x3 male teams , but somehow I doubt it    Boxing (2): two male quotas    Canoe slalom (1). maybe with a small chance for two places, but one is realistic    Canoe sprint (1): similar to slalom, maybe two, but one is realistic, but lets see how the new qualification system plays out    Cycling (2): would bee very happy with a quota in BMX freestyle and male road race    Diving (1): hoping that Matej Nevescanin will qualify    Fencing (0): very small chance in mens foil, but I guess will not happen.    football (0): there is always talks about our male team, but never succeeded, I am afraid will be the same for LA 2028    Artistic gymnastics (4): Kovtun plus two additional male quotes plus one female   Handball (14): the mens team should qualify    Judo (5): four female quota plus one male    Rowing (5). difficult to say as boats/crews are not defined yet. But I expect 4 mens places plus 1 female. Maybe more, but let see    Sailing (6): somehow not a good development in this sports, could be even less than 6 quotas.    Shooting (5): hopefully two trap and two male rifle quotas plus one surprise    Swimming (6): will be brave here and say 5 male plus one female. I think we have a realistic chance to qualify a freestyle relay.    Table tennis (5): hope for 3 male and two female quotas incl. mixed doubles (Arapovic/Ban)   Tennis (6): still too early, and always the question who is really interested in playing.   Taekwondo (3): I am seeing two females plus one male qualifying   Waterpolo (11): mens team should be safe, small chance for our women's team.   Wrestling (1) considering the Russian expansion, one quota would be great     in all other sports hopeless case for Croatia. But 88 would be a great delegation, probably too optimistic
