Satou Sabally was born in NYC. had her parents stayed in the U.S. she would have been eligible to play for Team USA. However, I doubt that she would have ever been invited to a Team USA camp, much less earn a Team USA roster spot for the Olympics or World Cup.

There is a reason this is Germany's FIRST ever Olympics for the German Women's National Team in Basketball. The German Women's National Team has a FIBA ranking of 25th. Which means even if you finish DEAD last, your team "should" move up in the rankings. However, do not expect too much from your team. Your team finished a -24 in your group. France finished a +135, we finished a +118, Australia a +40, & Japan +8.

I know that it is a waste of time but, especially the bold sentence is nonsense.
In 2023 Satou Sabally became the WNBA most improved player as was in the All-WNBA first team.

I think it's pretty safe that she would be on the US squad this year.

This tournament will have three groups of four teams.

Team USA - China & Australia will each lead a group.

The 2024 Olympic Women's Basketball Tournament will have FIVE European Teams.

Pot Three and Pot Four Teams have to HOPE to avoid the Death Group and the Team USA Group.

The 1st and 2nd placed teams in each group advances to the Qtrs. The last two teams to advance to

the Qtrs. are determined by the best remaining record for teams 7th & 8th.

After group play, the remaining eight teams will be redrawn to determine the QF pairings. The Team

with the best competition record [seed 1] will play against the team with the worst competition record

[seed 8]. Seed 2 will play against seed 7, seed 3 will play against seed 6, Seed 4 will play against seed 5.

In the 2021 Olympic Women's Basketball Tournament, Australia finished 1-2 and then drew Team USA in

the QF and that ended their tournament. Serbia defeated China and that earned them a date with Team

USA in the Semis.

Pot 2 Spain - Canada - Belgium

    • Draws are now out: https://ausopen.com/draws   As usual, some intriguing first round matchups.   ‪Osaka/Garcia and Gauff/Kenin are the main ones that stand out on the women’s side, while for the men it’s Hurkacz/Griekspoor, Dimitrov/Fognini and Monfils/Mpetshi Perricard, but there’s so many quality matchups that it’s tough to only pick a couple. I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.
