Can't imagine that the IOC would ever permit it.  The Native Americans do have a distinct legal position, but from the Olympic POV they would be like Greenland or Jersey.

Yeah, allowing them to compete, even under the Olympic flag would open such a can of worms. Many separatist nations will try to compete using the same logic.

 with a big win (well, narrow in score) over  in men's softball. They were one of only two qualified teams not to play at the World Cup earlier this year.

Japan’s first goal of the second half was only with 25 seconds left to go in the game.  
 

Looks to me like the Canadian team was conserving their energy and saving their legs for their remaining matches, the intensity wasn’t there.
