  • 1 year later...

Posting this here, since I don't think any sports thread will be appropiate :p

So lately this poll has been done in The UK - what are your thoughts? :dPersonally I am a bit surprised 40% of Brits think Football is boring :yikes:

Also, currently our national sports channel is doing a similar poll, only with 20 sports, including handball, volley and Ice Hockey which are not on this list. I will inform you about the results after they will be published in Monday or Tuesday :d

My favourite Volleyball position: LIBERO. You ask why? Look here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyIOarNAONk

Personally I would put tennis but especially swimming much higher on the boring list, cricket even higher, and darts way lower (as in more exciting) :p  And football much much higher.

Then again, it all depends on the matches and competitions, there's plenty of athletics races which suuuucked, but also plenty of American football matches which were utterly amazing (I saw 3 matches in the past three weeks and both were ridiculously exciting).

Sorry if I misunderstood - you think football is boring?

Usually when I watch, not much happens, indeed. I usually have the 'luck' to end up watching a match with maybe 5-10 somewhat serious goal attempts and 1 or 2 goals and that's it :p

Of course there's always exceptions, like in any sport.

Volleyball at 4, football at 5.........alpine skiing at 11, Formula 1 at 18.....it's fun to see how this is different in countries around the world (presumably largely influenced by a nation's success, for example I can imagine that 99% of the world thinks hammer throw is the worst of all athletics events, whereas I can also imagine it would score very high in Poland :p )

Not to mention ski jumping at 1. I would believe that quite a lot of people from countries that aren't succesfull at the sport find it pretty boring :p

Exactly :p (not saying in my opinion it is even though we have never had any success, but I definitely agree with your point)

    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
