Men's Handball IHF World Championship 2025

In the meantime, Team Poland proudly beat Team US in the Presidents Cup on penalties 💪. LA 28 hosts handball programme ain’t that good yet.

But - jokes aside - US team surely better than Team GB A.D. 2012.

Or China 2008.

thriller and excitement night for all handball fans except :EGY and :HUN

QF results yesterday:

:CRO VS :HUN  31-30, incredible game with both teams swap leading the results, both keepers were the reason of their team leading, some great saves from :HUN  GK Bartucz make :HUN lead, then few brilliant sves from :CRO GK Kuzmanovic bring them back on to draw then the lead. But the most interesting part when it was 26-30 for :HUN with 5 minutes to go when :CRO coach decided to put the 35 yrs old experienced GK Pesic into the field, he managed to save all shots on him in the last 5 min. with very good attack from :CRO players and the cherry on the top when Sipic scored at 59:59 the winning goal and made the hall shaking and supporters going mad. very sorry for :HUN who did a great effort and ended the night by a nightmare.

:FRA VS :EGY 34-33, do you think the previous game was the ultimate drama? ..no ..this was even more thriller, :FRA was leading the game from beginning and the score was 18-14 in the first half, early in 2nd half the score difference became 5 for :FRA but slowly slowly :EGY managed to close the gap (thanks to attacking tactic playing with 7 players and an empty goal), last couple of minutes were amazing for handball fans, it reached 32-30 for :FRA then :EGY managed to draw and then 33-32 for :FRA again, the Yaya scored when it was 59:57 (only 3 sec to final whistle) with very fast start from Karabatic they managed to score which has been rejected by :EGY team but the video ref proved the ball was in at 59:59.97 ..only 0.03 sec destroyed the Egyptian dream in unbelievable Hitchcock scenario.

Lesson learned for :EGY (I hope it's learned), you can't compete with below average GK ..and fair selection of players is a key of success.

today's matches:

:DEN VS :BRA

:POR VS :GER

in 2021 :POL team was very promising I was expecting to perform better in 2023 but they did almost similar (even the game was at home) ... but this year was the biggest shocking surprise for me, don't know why they are so slow and very heavy on the field.

Is the Egyptian goalkeeper always this bad?

This is a very good question, and the simple answer is ..YES ..they always like that and even the old GK legends (Elrouby, Elnakeeb, Ayman Salah..etc) they were below average worldwide (locally they were the greatest) … the main question is …why?

I am an ex-handball GK in Egypt and later played also in England for Reading Lions handball club, so what I am going to say about Egyptian GKs are not speculations but that was our real life and still.

  • Why I was a GK ..simply because I was left wing number 3 in the team, and by luck during some cooling break I was playing shot out with friend and saved all, then the coach decided to keep me in goal for this training session ..then forever.
  • You are not good enough as a player, you are very slow, you are very fat, you are not talented those are the main reasons in :EGY why a person becomes handball GK.
  • Since I was 8 till 23 yrs old when I stopped playing  in :EGY for work reasons I (we) never ever had a specialised GK coach!! ..even the special training to improve our skills was usually ruined by players when the coach is focusing how they are not scoring more than focus on our movements and style.
  • Handball GKs usually memorised the players, those players I am playing with them in the training or even the opponents I see them 4-5 times every season, I perfectly memorise their movements and shots, but that shouldn’t be your normal style, you should have plans for unknown players, how to block the angles, how to synchronise with the block to get one side and to let them block the other side, when you block the close angle and leave the wide one and vice versa.

When I was in England (which is not a strong or even average team), all GKs went to GK workshop with whom?? Omeyer ..the legend French handball GK .. I was listening to some advices which I never heard about in my life. Where was that when I was young and able to improve, unfortunately nothing.

Sorry for talking to much but I am really disappointed and I know :EGY   will never win a major title or medal without a good GK ..imagine if Egypt in Olympics or last 3 Wch has Landin or De Vargas or Wolff …at least would  be on the podium couple of times.

It's a shame, because the rest of the team has a lot of quality. Yesterday, I haven't seen France play such an uncreative game in a long time. The plays were always the same, through the center, but it seemed like the goalkeeper was always caught off guard. With a good goalkeeper, you could have easily won the match.

Langaro and Montes' performance was disappointing. Pathetic to be exact.

The rest of the team did what they could. In any case, no work starts at the top.

But in general the team deserves appreciation

carvalho did well and montes did some good saves

the bad time  was the black out minutes between 40 and 52 when the team was struggling to score

good tournament and wish you all the best .. and …. Consistency 😉

I honestly didn't expect the victory, not even my most optimistic self. But handball here has gained great visibility due to the historic campaign (at least more than it usually has) and I was hoping that we would have at least one great game against the Danes. It had been a long time since the world championships had even been broadcast here.

But the main fear is that the sport will be abandoned again, like what happened after the end of our golden generation of women's handball. I hope not.

    • whatever you heard is just speculation. no one knows at the moment, probably even the orange himself.   and Iranian athletes failed to get visa so many times before. even female athletes. there is no pattern, it's just too random.    and yes Iran has a system of compulsory military service for men, and there is 50% chance for anybody to be randomly drafted by IRGC affiliated organizations. that's the case for Taremi and few others in the current team.
    • Would you believe the NCAA Indoor season has already started?
    • Some changes that I've noticed:   3x3 Basketball: With the expanded 12 team field, one extra team per gender qualifies through world rankings, one extra team qualifies through the universality driven tournament and there's now an Olympic Qualifier series to award the final quotas.   Beach Volleyball: Continental qualifiers have have priority over the World championship and World Rankings quotas and there's now Olympic Qualifier Series quotas.   Canoe Sprint: World ranking system now in place and will be used instead of awarding world championship quotas. Road Cycling: 2 nations ranking quotas per gender moved to universality.   Track Cycling: Sprint and Keirin ranking list is now combined and will award 14 quotas per gender. Previously it was 7+7. Team pursuit down to 8 quotas from 10. 2 of the quotas have been moved to madison (one additional team) and 6 to the omnium.   Fencing: Can get a Continental quota of you finished in the top 24 of the rankings. It was previously top 16.    Hockey: 2 pro league quotas replace two qualification tournament quotas.   Judo: 5 less universality places and 4 more Continental places. For men, there's two more spots for Asia, one less for Oceania and 1 more for the Americas. For the women, there's one more spot for Europe, one less for Oceania and two more for Asia.   Modern Pentathlon: Less quotas awarded through world rankings as a result of quota cuts.   Open Water Swimming: Introduction of world ranking qualifier.   Sailing: In general, seems to be more quotas awarded at the last chance regatta and less quotas at the World Championships   Shooting: One less quota handed out at each World Championship and the return on World Cup qualifiers.   Swimming: Olympic qualification and consideration times renamed to A and B standard. B standard is now 1% slower than the A standard compared to 0.5% in 2024. Stroke 50s have their own direct qualification events and have minimum time standards instead of A and B standards. Qualification times have been nuked again. B standard selection process has also changed.   Volleyball: New revised format. Continental championships first, then world championships followed by world rankings. In 2024, it was 3 qualification tournaments and then world rankings. Only 3 countries per gender will qualify by world rankings now compared to 5 in 2024
    • For Italy, the match against Japan and likely the final match against Estonia will be a safe/relegation game, but I'm think that whether the match against Estonia will be decisive on anything, if we have 0 points after 4 matches. We're currently the worst team here – we have 0 points and are taking significantly fewer shots than our opponents in each match. Japan and Estonia are looking better for now and unfortunately, without significant improvement play starting tomorrow, we'll likely be relegated to the fourth division. With the absence of Russia and Belarus, this will be a shame, even for the weaker 2006/2007 age generation. Especially, since we are playing this tournament at home. For anyone could have competed with a good shape, except perhaps Hungary, who are currently the best team in the tournament.
    • They shouldn't promise additional spots to countries that qualify 3 athletes in each distance, because then taking those spots away isn't fair. For example, in Italy, Previtali won the 500m QO for country but he would likely have to stay at home because the staff probably would have chosen Casinelli for the relay (Casinelli won't be competing individually at all). I don't know what the situation is in Canada with the fifth-place skater? Will this person only compete in the relay, or will he also be a reserve there?
    • That's too bad. Athletes who finish in the top 32 (or 36 for the 1590m) should be the priority over the 5th athlete from a relay country.   So Croatia loses their 2nd women's quota, Hong Kong loses their only women's quota and Poland loses their 3rd women's quota.   This means that Great Britain, Slovakia and Ukraine should fill up the rest of the 1500m field since they are the highest placed reserves that doesn't require an additional quota.
    • Philip Rivers' possible return to NFL while being a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame certainly wasn't on my bingo card. But well. So far he's only on the practice squad
