Even with Katie being better in the turns Summer still beat her and with that time. That girl is really special.

 

Don't know which events is swimming Ledecky on saturday, but with this form she should focus on the 1500 and try to get a WR.

best of day #1

 

 Summer McIntosh won an amazing W 400m Free race edging out  Katie Ledecky in a tight sprint finish (3.52.80 to 3.52.88), swimming also the new JWR (and it would have been also a new senior WR, if only  Li Bingjie didn't go even faster yesterday at the Chinese WC trials).

 Matthew Sates doubled up his success in Berlin in the M 400m Free in 3.37.52 ahead of  Kieran Smith and  Danas Rapsys (both over 3.38).

 Shane Casas, a true short course specialist, won 2 races: the M 200m Back in 1.48.99 and the M 100m IM in 51.03.

 Kelly Pash upset the more experienced  Hali Flickinger and  Katerine Savard in the W 200m Fly (2.03.61 for the winner).

 Chad Le Clos won the M 100m Fly with an excellent 48.88 over  Matthew Temple and  Trenton Julian (both at 49.x).

 Lilly King beat  Sydney Pickrem in the W 200m Breast (2.18.43 to 2.19.71, they were the only 2 swimmers below the 2.20 mark).

 Katarzyna Wasick dominated the W 50m Free with the new NR of 23.27 ahead of  Maggie McNeil and  Madison Wilson (both still in the 23's).

finally,  Dylan Carter was the only man below the 21 sec mark in the M 50m Free (20.91).

as I wrote, it's not a full recap, it's just the "best of day 1"...

 

and jokes aside, that wasn't one of the top races of the day (I know you're very proud of the Canadian clean sweep, but I normally don't give much credit to non-Olympic distances, unless record breaking times or upsets of "big names" are recorded).

To the surprise of no one, Katie Ledecky races for the first time in her life a 1500 FR short course and breaks the WR by 10 seconds. And barely kicking at all

 Katie Ledecky is of course the top hit of last night's program...

as already written, she won the W 1500m Free in WR breaking 15.08.24 and then she was second in the W 200m Free behind  Siobhan Haughey (1.51.13 for the winner, 1.52.31 for the American).

 Summer McIntosh swam another JWR in the W 400m IM, 4.21.49 (about 2.5 secs slower than Belmonte's senior WR), leading a Canadian clean sweep.

 Dylan Carter won the M 50m Back, being the only swimmer below the 23-sec mark (22.94).

 Shane Casas confirmed himself in very good shape and went not so far away from the WR of the M 200m IM (1.50.37 the time of his win, new SCWC record).

 Beata Nelson beat  Kylie Masse in the W 100m Back (55.75 to 56.16).

 Maggie McNeil dominated the W 50m Fly in 24.75, only less than 4/10 of a sec slower than Alshammar's WR.

 Ruta Meilutyte ended up winning a fierce battle against  Lilly King in the W 100m Breast (1.02.95 to 1.03.33), in one of the best races of the night.

but the top was probably seen in the M 200m Fly, where  Trenton Julian edged out  Chad Le Clos 1.49.69 to 1.49.78 (the winning time is also a new SCWC record).

finally, the M 100m Free:  Kyle Chalmers dominated once again this race in 45.52, ahead of  Thomas Ceccon (46.15 for him).

Ledecky is on another level. To break the WR in the longest race and to come back minutes later to win a medal in 2000 8s remarkable.
