Update on Wheelchair Basketball Qualification:

 

The 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships rankings are used to allocate continental quota. The system works like so, every continent starts with 1 quota (Africa, Asia/Oceania, Americas, Europe) and then every nation that finishes in the top 4 wins another quota for their continent.

 

In the Men's event the quota allocation is as follows:

  • ASIA (3): 1 + :IRI:AUS IN TOP 4
  • EUROPE (2): 1 + :GBR IN TOP 4
  • AMERICAS (2): 1 + :USA IN TOP 4
  • AFRICA (1): 1
  • QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT (3)

In the Women's event the quota allocation is as follows:

  • EUROPE (4): 1 + :GER:GBR:NED IN TOP 4
  • ASIA (2): 1 + :CHN IN TOP 4
  • AMERICAS (1): 1
  • AFRICA (1): 1
  • QUALIFICATION TOURNAMENT (1)

 

There will be some interesting battles at the continental championships, some highlights include just 2 quota available at the European Championships for men and only 1 quota for the Americas in Women's. Every nation that enters their continental championships will be eligible to compete at the Paralympic Qualification tournament for the final places as well.
