Would make perfect sense for them to host in 2023. @bestmen start campaigning :p. In all seriousness, I think :ALG could pull it off.

I also wouldn’t count out a country like :NAM, :BOT, or :ZIM

2023 has already been awarded to Ghana and they seem pretty serious about it

Can't really blame the Moroccans though, 30 plus years without knowing or giving a damn to it.

I can and I did. They rank below the Lao People’s Republic, Tahiti, and Cape Verde In my book (in terms of good multi-sports games hosts). That statement is also a perfect summation about the world letting Morocco get away with its completely illegal and immoral occupation and destruction of the Sahrawi Republic.

All fun and well, but my point about Senegal and Mali (among others) was entirely based on atmosphere, not on feasability :p I sure haven't seen every event held there, but every time I did (from world youth championships in athletics in Kenya to African U18 basketball in Mali) the stands were totally filled with jumping and dancing and singing people...while in other, possibly richer countries, the atmosphere in events that I've seen was more...boring.

If I have to choose one, I'd prefer the infrastructure over the atmosphere.

For example, I'm quite ashamed with Indonesian Badminton Association official sometimes criticizes the organizers of international badminton tournaments in other parts of the world because they don't have the same hospitality or atmosphere like what it is in Indonesia. While they on the other hand provide a full-house venue with awful lighting, leaking roof that delayed the matches, and disgusting toilets for officials/athletes.

On the other hand, who cares about a tournament where you've got perfect housing and stuff but the only people watching are one or two friends who happened to be there and a passerby walking her dog?

That's why Turkmenistan exist, both venues and atmosphere are readily prepared by Berdy

  • 5 weeks later...

So after a bit of digging, it seems like the Pan Arab Games May be back from the dead. Most people thought the games were done after the 2015 fiascos (something 3-5 nations withdrew from hosting the games as the impacts of the Arab Spring and ISIS were felt across the region). However, it seems there’s still work going on behind the scenes. Rumor has it, because I’ve seen nothing official to confirm it, that :IRQ has been chosen as the host for the 2021 edition of the games. There’s no website, that I could find, or any sort of notice from the organizing committee as to if the games will actually take place. It would be fun to see these historic games continue, especially since they’re one of the few I’ve never been able to watch.

    • So, the gap between Shiffrin and Aicher in the overall WC standings is now 219 points.   The races left are: - DH x 3 - SG x 2 - GS x 2 - SL x 2   Could Aicher have a glimmer of a chance?    She'd obviously need to avoid DNFs, which have been an issue this year, but she could potentially lead the table after next week's races in Val di Fassa, provided there are no cancellations (the weather forecast is very good at the moment).

    • Last night, I had the privilege to see my first live curling matches.  The USA National Championships were just 1.5 hours away from where I live (not bad in a country the size of ours, and even more surprising since I live in an area where it rarely snows).  I got to visit the 'page final' (i.e. first playoff round), the highlight of which for me was Team Shuster vs. Team Stopera.  Team Stopera ended up winning by 1 point, but Shuster will be able to play one final match this morning to see if they can make it to the finals this afternoon (the winner of which will qualify to Worlds).  None of the current Olympians were there, having declined their spot in the tournament.   Got some free swag     These people would yell 'Peel!
