heywoodu 15,135 Posted September 4, 2019 Author #284 Share Posted September 4, 2019 This really says quite a lot coming from one of the world's most prolific storm chasers, who's been in some of the worst to hit land in recent memory (like Haiyan which killed over 5000 people in the Philipines, he was offline for days because he valued helping people over reporting as fast as possible, top guy). . dezbee2008 819 Posted September 4, 2019 #285 Share Posted September 4, 2019 A little update: Dorian's eye came about 101 miles due east of Daytona (about 120 miles east of my hometown), and while the worst of it stayed offshore, we managed to only get around 30-45 miles per hour in wind gusts (I live inland. On the coast, it was 60+ mph gusts). My power stayed on the whole time, and the we just got off our worst hour. The local TV stations here have been saying that if Dorian kept on his original path and stalled the way he did in the Bahamas, our area would've been hit, so I am very grateful that it didn't happen. However, here in Central Florida, we're shifting our focus to helping the Bahamas.
heywoodu 15,135 Posted September 4, 2019 Author #286 Share Posted September 4, 2019 Yeah, Florida got pretty damn lucky...(even though the news here mostly focussed on preparations in Florida for whatever reason, instead of total destruction in another country). dezbee2008 1 . heywoodu 15,135 Posted September 4, 2019 Author #287 Share Posted September 4, 2019 It's still very early for this one, but early models suggest a 'wave' that's coming off the African coast at the moment might develop into a hurricane, and look where the models have it headed in two weeks...let's just hope the whole thing changes before that. . What I also found funny is that Georgia is rarely mentioned by the news (at least from what I watched), as if after Florida there is only South Carolina. The guy from National Hurricane Center is clearly pointing to Georgia while talking about South Carolina, until the presenter asked: "What about Georgia?" heywoodu

Apart from the very poor shantytowns of course, where they simply don't have the money for anything better. .
