Sheer domination by Terentev and Valnes, who were already 6 and 5 seconds faster than the rest in qualifying. Awesome silver for 17-year old Skinder and gold for Lundgren :)

As for Brazil, Rhaick Bonfim could have gone for something promising in the junior men's sprint, but didn't close his binding well and saw his ski come off and glide down on the very first uphill :facepalm:Manex Silva and Lucas Lima were, let's say, ok.

Awesome result for Manex Silva today in the men's junior 10k freestyle. He finished 80th out of 102 competitors, destroyed the fellow Brazilians who were beating him left and right last year and especially the way he progressed through the field in the second half was impressive.

Spoiler

Fun fact: he trains in Spain/with his own Spanish coach instead of within the Brazilian structure. Basically every Brazilian who improved in cross-country skiing over the past year or so (across the entire wintersports board) has been training either in another country or mostly making their own program.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Off to Milan for the 145th session of the International Olympic Committee. Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. This will be the eighth time the session is held in Italy, the last one being during the Turin 2006 Olympic Games.

    • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
