intoronto 4,236 Posted May 29, 2022 Author #2 Share Posted May 29, 2022 Canadian wrestling trials were held this weekend, the winner of each Olympic category qualified for the Worlds and the Commonwealth Games Men's Freestyle 57 kg: Darthe Capellan 65 kg: Lachlan McNeil (Eighth at World Juniors last year and Gold at Pan Am Juniors) 74 kg: Patrik Leder (2021 Pan AM Junior silver medalist) 86 kg: Alex Moore 97 kg: Nishan Randhawa 125 kg: Amar Dhesi Looks like a changing of the guard happening here in the men's events. Realistically only Amar can be expected to win gold at Birmingham 2022. Women's Freestyle 50 kg: Madi Parks 53 kg: Sam Stewart 57 kg: Hannah Taylor 62 kg: Ana Paula Godinez 68 kg: Linda Morais 76 kg: Justina Di Stasio Linda Morais moved up 9 kg to win this category, she is a former WC in the 59 kg event. Justina had a bad Pan Ams, but is probably our strongest bet for gold at the Commonwealth games. Ana Godinez, wow, she is a very powerful wrestler and has a chance as well. 3 gold medals is better than 2018, but still a drop from 2014.

Josh 5,686 Posted September 16, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2022 (edited) Justina di Stasio started off on a high, on the final day of the women's 76kg freestyle, winning her first repecharge match against Austria's Martina Kuenz 3-3, but ultimately finishes just short of a medal, losing her bronze medal match against Estonia's Epp Mae by a score of 1-2, to finish 5th at the 2022 World Wresting Championships. The day before, she lost 1-3 to Egypt's Samar Amer in the Round Of 16. A great performance by her. Meanwhile, in the women's 68kg category, Linda Morais overcame a QF loss to Japan's Ama Ishii to win her third* world championship medal, winning her first repecharge match 1-0 against France's Pauline Lecarpentier, and ultimately ending her day with a second repecharge match won 4F - 4 against India's Nisha Dahiya Edited September 19, 2022 by Josh

intoronto 4,236 Posted March 11, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted March 11, 2023 Canadian Trials are this weekend. So far one upset: Patrik Leder out in the first round of the 74kg freestyle event. He won trials last year in the weight category. No Linda Morais on the start list for 68 kg and no Erica Wiebe for 76 kg (though she is at the trials, so not sure why she isn't competing. The March 1st release by Wrestling Canada says she is competing). No other upsets so far. Josh

She lost to second place Diana Wiecker. All 3 are very good wrestlers and that weight category probably has the most depth Josh
