If anyone's interested, I compiled the best times 3 times in each event from the European Juniors, Pan-Pacific Juniors, and the World European Juniors. Non-olympic events weren't contested at Pan-Pacs so I'm skipping those.

 

I think China is the only major country that didn't compete at any of the 3 events so this should mostly give an idea of what a full junior world championship medal table would look like. There's a few notable juniors that didn't compete. This was especially true at the Pan-Pacs because swimmers that competed at the world championships weren't allowed to compete there. At this point, I'm too lazy to compile a list of absent junior swimmers so if anybody wants to do that, that would be appreciated.

Summer Mcintosh with a  4:29.12 in the 400 im at a test event in Toronto for the Canadian Trials!!!   Almost 3 seconds faster than the winning time in Tokyo. Insane, she is only 15.

Good work but there's one caveat, Junior Pan Pacs allows girls turning 18 this year to compete while other junior meets only allow those turning no older than 17. Despite this Australia selects their team using the FINA junior rules so none of their girls are overage. In particular Erin Gemmell is no longer a junior by FINA rules.

great job, but if we look at the world ranking lists for this year, the outcome is quite different in many disciplines...

 

for instance, in the men's 50m free, :POL Krzysztof CHMIELEWSKI has a 21.64 recorded early in the season (never backed up with anything close to that, however)...

 

maybe later today or tomorrow I'm going to post the 2022 Jr. WRL, just to have a full view of what happened through the whole season...

When and where did he go 21.64? Because that seems very strange for a 200 flyer and I see no record of it anywhere.

according to the list I did find, he did it at a Polish National meet in late February...

 

but it might be a mistake (I think it was a short course time that was put in the 50m pool list as a mistake)...:mumble:

Yep I was thinking it's probably a short course time. Still impressive for a 200 flyer.

as expected, the women's rankings are quite different from the junior events results we've seen through the year, as we have a couple of senior world champions still in the age of the junior class.

 

Most prominent name is surely Summer McIntosh, dominating good 5 disciplines, but also Benedetta Pilato (100m breastroke world and european champion) and a few more senior world (and / or continental) medallists like Katie Grimes that didn't participate to any of the junior events this year.

 

meanwhile the 3/4 most promising men (Popovici above all, but also Masiuk, Whittle and Coetze) still in the junior class of 2022 did take part into the main junior events of the season.

      In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)

      Overall, all of Old Europe is poorly here: France - 0 medals, Germany - 0 medals, Italy - 1 bronze, Hungary - 1 bronze. For many years the fencing authorities' policy has been to give greater support to Asia and other new emergent countries: Africa, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia, etc., and perhaps that's where Europe's crisis? Additionally Russia has returned and is immediately very strong.
