well, not that this edition was extremely interesting (2 CR in total, 1 among the boys, 1 among the girls)...

Popovici (ROU) and Galossi (ITA) swimming good times to dominate their respective events, but not going even close to their best clockings after having already performed in Budapest among the seniors...

the only expected champion to improve himself was the Polish Masiuk in the 50/100/200 backstroke...

among the teams, Poland have surely the best results, with Romania showing more than just Popovici (a cery interesting Stancu in the freestyle middle/long distances) and Italy struggling to keep in touch (if it wasn't for Galossi)...

also among the girls there was no wow! effect...

Hungary as always looks to have the most and best talents, especially Padar, but it's still too early to say what's the future ahead of these girls (the best youngsters aged 15/17 are not from Europe and already have their place on the senior stage)...

among those expected to good results, Jefimova (EST) dominated the breastroke with ease, but not so impressive times (same situation of Popovici & co.)...

Pudar (BIH) lost the 100m fly, but won the 50 and 200, but always with not so impressive times

Turkey are also high in the medal table thanks to their controversial middle distance specialists (Merve Tuncel above all), but I'm sure they won't become true stars at the top level...

Well, Pudar's 200m Butterfly time would have been 8th place in Tokyo. Maybe she should focus on that event.

It's probably the weakest among all the events right now (only 16 starters in Tokyo plus a DNS) but 2:08.92 does not look bad given her age.

What so controversial about Merve Tuncel? :d

it's the whole women's Turkish team...let's say that many people are still asking themselves why an Italian coach has to go working in a remote village in Turkey and he's not considered an option by any Italian team anymore (despite the medals he's winning with those girls)...

Pudar is swimming too many events in a short while...she was in Budapest, than the Mediterranean Games and now the Junior Europeans in 3 weeks time...

and I'm sure she'll be in Rome at the senior Europeans in a month...

they're just killing her talent with that schedule...

Yes, it's total bs and unfairly the US will probably still be able to skip if they qualify every relay at Fukuoka while probably every other country will need to attend in some capacity to secure relay qualification.

They should either qualify ALL the relays at Fukuoka or ALL the relays at Doha so the playing field is level for Paris.

  • 2 weeks later...

The new 9 day schedule for Paris cleares some tough doubles: Men's 400 IM and FR, 200 BK and 200 IM, women's 200 and 1500 FR for example.

Good news for Ledecky, she could do a full schedule without doubles.

Bad news for McKeown, she'll have to drop for sure the 400 IM as it conflicts with the 100 BK. And McIntosh the 200 FR as it is in the same day of the 400 IM. Also Michael Andrew could have a triple with the 50 FR, 100 BL and 200 IM. He would die if he tries that probably.

what I don't like at all, it's once again the men's 800m Free final and the men's 4*200m Free prelims and final on the same day...we have a lot of guys swimming both events (from Detti to our young hope Galossi)...

Yes, I've been tempted a few times to write a bit of a rant about the new schedule but bit my tongue. They've obviously gone to great lengths to ensure that Ledecky's schedule is basically perfect after her complaining (and probable lobbying) so now the 200/1500 double that only she does is perfect but then the much more common men's 4x200/800 double continues to exist and now there's also a men's 200 free/400 im double which will screw over more people than the women's 200/1500 double ever has.

I know it's petty but I'll be laughing if they go to so much trouble to give her the prefect schedule and she still fails to podium in the 200 and both Titmus and McIntosh beat her in the 400.

Well, to be honest, the most likely scenario is that both Titmus and McIntosh beat her and she fails to podium in the 200. It's two years away, but she will probably have more to lose than to win if she swims the 200. Even without the doubles that is a tough schedule to try, mostly at 27yo.

The 400IM and 200 FR I agree, but the 400 FR and 400 IM on the same day was worse IMO.
