So if Taiwan won today 3-2 ,they would have qualified ?

Actually this is the group of death. Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia look strong enough to win matches. However only the top 2 in the group can advance to play in the QF. That is why they need to win.

Thailand defeated Taiwan 3-2.

Indonesia defeated Thailand 3-2.

Indonesia defeated Taiwan 3-2.

Yes whoever win the match today is very important.

If Taiwan win the match 3-2 over Indonesia they have a higher chance to qualify.

Standings of Thomas Cup - Group A
Points Played Won Draw Lost Matches Games Points
1 INAINDONESIA 3 3 3 0 0 11 - 4 25 - 11 723 - 570
2 THATHAILAND 1 2 1 0 1 5 - 5 12 - 12 439 - 462
3 TPECHINESE TAIPEI 1 3 1 0 2 9 - 6 20 - 14 676 - 597
4 ALGALGERIA 0 2 0 0 2 0 - 10 0 - 20 211 - 420

This is the latest group result for Group A. Therefore confirmed that Indonesia and Thailand already qualified to play in the quarterfinals. Indonesia emerged as the group champion and Thailand is the runner up of the group. Well Taiwan had a chance to qualify to play in the quarter finals. Somehow their MS 2 and 3 world ranking is way too low compared to Indonesia MS 2 and 3 world ranking. Taiwan also made a blunder when they play versus Thailand. They did not put the better player Lu Ching Yao / Yang Po Han to play versus Thailand at that time. They put another weaker MD player Lee Jhe Huei / Yang Po Hsuan and lose.

To be very honest Taiwan or Taipei team is also not that strong either. Their MS 1 Chou Tien Chen world ranking is no 4 but then he is old already plus he is without a coach and only with his Physio when he goes out for tournaments. Taiwan MS 2 and 3 world ranking is also very low and not highly ranked. Chi Yu Jen who is playing as their MS 3 world ranking is no 150. That means he is not a good MS player and it will be very difficult for him to win his MS matches. However credit must be given to him for playing so well and give the Indonesia MS 3 player Shesar world ranking no 19 a tough fight before losing in rubber set.

No matter how in terms of ranking on paper Indonesia players are all higher ranked and of course they hold the edge to win over Taiwan today. However credit must also be given to Taiwan players who played to their level best today and managed to give their higher ranked opponents a tough fight today. Even for MD also Indonesia is very strong because their MD is world rank no 1, 2 and 7. Taiwan sad to say can only depend On Chou Tien Chen their MS 1 and Lee Yang / Wang Chi Lin their MD 1 to win matches. That is why when it comes to team matches like this it will be very difficult to win and proceed to play in the QF because they do not have strong MS 2 and 3. They also do not have strong MD 2.

Only 3 countries have a stronger 2nd singles. Chou Tien-chen has however always been a bit overrated. He's good but struggles against most top singles.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
