At the South American Swimming Championship, multiple Uruguayans broke national records.

 

Enzo Martínez (a Florida Gators alumni club member) tied for gold at 50 m freestyle with 22.44 s, which is a B mark for the Tokyo Olympics.

Nicole Frank (a 17-year-old) repeated 2'20.56 in 200 m medley, then broke the 200 m backstroke record with 2'23.03, and crushed the 400 m medley record with 5'02.55.

In athletics, María Pía Fernández got her personal best at 800 metres with 2'05.85 in Spain.

 

Emiliano Lasa won in Brazil with an excellent 8,11 m long jump.

 

In the Netherlands, Andrés Zamora did his personal best at the marathon with 2:14'18, but missed the Olympic mark. Nicolás Cuestas did 2:15'18, and Martín Cuestas retired with injury.

The Uruguayan surfers at the Olympic qualifier in El Salvador will be Lucas Madrid, Marco Giorgi, Sebastián Olarte, Delfina Morosini, Marcela Machado, and Sofía Alfonso.

 

The Uruguayan women's 3x3 basketball team at the Olympic qualifiers in Graz will be Florencia Somma, Sabina Bello (both Malvín), Aldaya Gayoso (Defensor Sporting) and Victoria Pereyra (Lagomar).

At the South American Athletics Chapionship:

 

  • Emiliano Lasa (long jump) was silver with 7.94 m.
  • María Pía Fernández (1500 m) was silver with 4'15.27.
  • Santiago Catrofe (1500 m) was bronze with 3'38.67.
  • Nicolás and Martín Cuestas (10,000 m) were silver and bronze with 29'38 and  29'47.
  • Silvina Gil (high jump), who is 15 years old, had a best mark of 1.74 m, and broke the national under-18 record that Andrea Sassi had set in 1983 (!!!).

  • Déboarh Rodrígez (800 m) was gold with 2'03.38, and qualified to the World Championship.
  • Andrés Silva (400 m hurdles) was bronze with 51.42 s.

At the Pan American Junior Swimming Championships, 18-year-old Clara de León won the gold medal in technical solo and the bronze medal in freestyle solo. This is the first ever Pan American gold for the country.

 

De León / Agustina Medina were 4th in freestyle duet and 5th in technical duet.

Victor Rostagno, a 22-year-old, was fourth at the vault event at the Pan American Artistic Gymnastics, with 13.650 points.

 

Judokas Mikael Aprahamian and Rodrigo Gamou lost in first round of the World Championships. Aprahamian is waiting for the rankings update, as he might qualify to the Olympics on the continental quota.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
