intoronto 4,242 Posted June 27, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2022 Sisters Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance from Chester, N.S., won the bronze medal in 49erFX at the Kiel Week event which ended Sunday in Germany. In fourth place following the 10 preliminary races and one point behind a spot on the podium, the Canadian team won the medal race to gain one spot and come up with the bronze medal, finishing ahead of some competitors who were at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, including Olympic silver medalists Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke from Germany. Solid result! More here: https://sirc.ca/news/antonia-and-georgia-lewin-lafrance-win-bronze-at-the-kiel-week-event-in-germany/

Josh 5,698 Posted August 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2023 (edited) A Canadian is currently in 6th in women's laser radial at World Championships after 2/11 races. Surprisingly it isn't Douglas. Maura Dewey (Hadn't heard of her before today ) placed 8th and 6th. Douglas is in 75th, but during her first race she got a BFD (Black Flag Disqualification), and soon followed it up with 14th. Once she discards that BFD, she'll be right in the mix, but she can't afford any more mistakes. The Lewin-LeFrance sisters are in 15th after 9/16 races, but as they're 17 points away from Germany's Bergmann/Wille (#10 NOC) looks like we'll have to wait until Pan Ams to qualify. Anderson is the top-Canadian in men's laser after 2/11 races at 20th, with Ruitenberg in 21st, and Karim in 28th. Very good chance to qualify here (Same in women's laser radial) as the top 16 NOCs secure a quota for Paris. Josh 5,698 Posted August 19, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2023 (edited) Sarah Douglas secures a quota for Paris 2024! Despite a disappointing 24th place finish, she grabs the 16th (and final) quota in women's laser radial. Edit: As it turns out she still hasn't qualified herself. My mistake. Josh 5,698 Posted March 10 #9 Share Posted March 10 (edited) 49er/49er FX World Championships just concluded in Lanzarote, Spain. Georgia Lewin-Lefrance/Antonia Lewin-Lefrance with Canada’s best finish overall with a solid 8th in 49er FX! Alexandra Ten-Hove and Mariah Millen finish 30th. In 49er, Justin Barnes and Will Jones take the lead with a 39th place finish. Not much separating them from Arie Moffat/Hunter Hoy (50th) and Thomas Staples/William Staples (55th) though. The teams that are leading right now are the best in each event IMO. Hoping they can keep it up. This is one of two events that counts towards Canadian team selection for the upcoming Olympics, as whoever has the best combined score position (ex 21st + 3rd) after the Princess Sofia Regatta will represent us. Update. I just saw a Sailing Canada article on the matter, the Lewin-Lafrance sisters have been nominated to represent Canada at the Olympics! “In the event that only one team places in the top 8 at the 2023 Olympic Class World Championships and no other team places within 10 overall finish positions from the team that finished in the top 8, they will automatically be nominated to the Olympic Team.” “Due to an injury which prevented one of the Canadian teams to compete at last year’s edition of the World Championships in this class, the rule was changed to this year’s edition” intoronto
