Last week was played in the Development Cup. A tournament for countries not able to play in the IIHF World Championship Program won the gold ahead of Silver and Bronze @OlympicIRL Hard luck for @bestmen who finished 4th, was 5th and last 6th @kungshamra71 . Andorra win over Portugal 13-0 was the very first ever win of ice hockey NT Results of the Tournament 4 May ALG vs AND 14-5 LIE vs IRL 7-6 COL vs POR 16-3 5 May IRL vs ALG 7-6 AND vs COL 3-8 POR vs LIE 0-3 IRL vs AND 6-6 POR vs ALG 1-9 COL vs LIE 3-1 6 May AND vs POR 13-0 LIE vs ALG 11-2 IRL vs COL 3-3 7 May ALG vs COL 1-11 AND vs LIE 4-8 POR vs IRL 4-12 btw nice article about participation Importance for further development For first timer Algeria, being present was very important. “The participation in this Development Cup was massive. We really needed this boost,” confirms Karim Kerbouche, from Team Algeria. “Just before we became IIHF member in 2019, we were on a peak with the Algerian government paying attention to us and willing to fund and building our sport in Algeria. It had taken us some years to get this recognition and support. It resulted in government funding for a kids’ program, an ice hockey school on the sole ice rink in Algeria, a rink suited for 3-on-3 games situated in a shopping mall in the city of Setif. Unfortunately, Covid happened some three months later, and everything went in lockdown like in the rest of the world. As a result, our local hockey program went in hibernation for two years. Hence, we needed this Development Cup to get back on track and rekindle the attention of the Algerian government to restart the aid they were providing for us and helping us with the ice hockey school in Setif and for participation in tournaments abroad like this Development Cup. “I’m very happy with the outcome. I didn’t expect we would win the tournament. We had 10 plus guys born in Algeria. And we bring as many players as possible back to our project for the kids. So, from that side of things, our two victories were amazing. The tournament gave us the opportunity to play against European nations, which was a first for us and win against one, which was big for us. And then of course the historical game against Colombia. An African nation playing ice hockey against a South American, that’s material for the history books of ice hockey. It’s an honour to be part of that history. And it’s definitely interesting, it’s proof ice hockey has become a global sport.”

This is the list of 25 players who will fly to Helsinki on Wednesday. However only 23 of them will be immediatelly added to the official roster. 2 Places will stay vacant, Bučko and the young Sýkora will have to wait how the situation in the NHL Stanley Cup Play-Offs 1st round will develop (There still 3 players we are looking for, Defencers Martin Fehérváry (Washington Capitals) Erik "Drago" Černák (Tampa Bay) and forward Adam Ružička (Calgary Flames))We hope at least 2 of them will be eliminated and will join the team. If not Bučko and/or Sýkora will be then later added to the official roster. Slovakia meanwhile once again beat its own World Record and will send the youngest team ever at the World Championships. Age Average is 24,44 years !!! 3 Currently U18 players are in the team, 18 years old stars Slafkovský and Nemec and the youngest of all the 17 years talent Adam Sýkora. and yet we have left at home other names like 17 years miracle and top 3 next year 2023 NHL Draft prospect Dalibor Dvorský or another 18 years this year potential NHL draft 1st rounder Filip Mešár... Yeah the future is finally looking better for the hockey obsessed country under the Tatras. #mission Milano/Cortina -

Freshly promoted and Bids for the 2023 World Championship Hungary won the brotherly cross-border clash with Romania 4-2 on the last day at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A. The result didn’t change much in the standings as it became already clear yesterday evening that Hungary would finish in second place while Romania would remain in last place and be relegated. Media representatives at the Tivoli Hall were therefore more interested in what the ice hockey associations of Hungary and Slovenia announced after the game. Hungary and Slovenia, both promoted to the top division as the top-two ranked teams here, announced a joint bid for the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship that was originally planned in St. Petersburg, Russia. The bid was presented under the motto “extreme circumstances require extreme decisions”. Since the countries have a tough time to bid for the tournament years in advance as “elevator teams” that move up and down between the top level and the Division I, they want to seize the chance with the 2023 edition to be reassigned just one year in advance and both teams being qualified. The bid includes the original game days of 5-21 May 2023. The two countries bid with the brand-new MVM Dome in Budapest as the venue for one preliminary-round group, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and both medal games. The arena was opened last December and hosted the 2022 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship with a capacity of 19,182 spectators in an ice hockey configuration. Slovenia’s venue would be Arena Stozice, which hosted the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A with up to 10,500 fans filling the venue at that time. It would host the other preliminary-round group and two quarter-final games. Hungary has never hosted a top-level men’s World Ice Hockey Championship but Budapest staged the top-level U18 Women’s Worlds in 2014. Slovenia’s capital of Ljubljana was host of the 1966 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The event took place with three tournaments in former Yugoslavia with Ljubljana hosting the top division, Zagreb the B-Pool and Jesenice the C-Pool.

Exact. Jaro Dragan from HC Košice. Man he was some leaky goalie, but we did not have a better one, all better were czechs haha He and Švehla and Veselovský were the only slovaks who won olympic bronze in Albertville 1992 in that last appearance of Czechoslovakia. Šatan started like a wonder kid in Lillehammer, he was just 18 and became the top scorer of the Olympics. Lillehammer btw was a special tournament for us, the Slovaks wanted to prove to the world the guilt that the IIHF committed on us after the division of Czechoslovakia and afer they sent Slovakia into the "C" category. it was a disgrace to us, and we had a hard time swallowing this guilt. And it was Peter Šťastný who succeed thanks his strong name to persuade the iihf to let us play at least the olympic qualification in Sheffield 1993. We won it and did qualify to the Olympics. And we were not far from a medal. This was a huge fuck off to whole IIHF from whole Slovakia

Hossa is already a legend and not only of Slovak but also world hockey, there is a reason why he was already added to the both IIHF Hall of Fame and also the NHL hall of Fame which is something not easy to achieve for an european , especially at his age However, Apart the already mentioned names I would also add Žigmund Pálffy to this list, He was probably the most skilled slovak player ever. Not the brightest guy on earth but with some hell of golden hands

I believe Marián Hossa. At least for me but generally speaking it should be Peter Šťastný, I mean the guy made it to a star of Canada NT and NHL after his defection and still at 40s after the fall of comunism was the star of the Lillehammer Olympics for fresh new Slovakia. Another one Slovak born Canadian super star was Stan Mikita.

The draft is approaching and the son of god start working on the final phase for his position, Plus - he finally could take down the helmet cage. and among other stuff did this yesterday in his first match for Slovakia since the Olympics bronze. Man, I want still be alive on this earth to see what this kid will do when he will be 25 years old This is pure joy to watch this kid. I mean, the kid is still 18 !
