  1. Friday May 10th, 2019 - Round-Robin Day 1 Schedule (GMT +2) Preliminary Round LIVESTREAM Group A Central European Summer Time (GMT +2) Finland vs Canada Period-by-Period: May 10th 2019, h. 16:15, Steel Arena, Košice United States vs Slovakia Period-by-Period: May 10th 2019, h. 20:15, Steel Arena, Košice Group B Central European Summer Time (GMT +2) Russia vs Norway Period-by-Period: May 10th 2019, h. 16:15, Ondrej Nepela Arena, Bratislava Czech Republic vs Sweden Period-by-Period: May 10th 2019, h. 20:15, Ondrej Nepela Arena, Bratislava
  2. Tournament Format Preliminary Round The 16 teams are divided into two groups of 8 teams for the Preliminary Round. Group A in Košice (Steel Arena) and Group B in Bratislava (Ondrej Nepela Stadium - Slovnaft Arena) In the preliminary group every team will play once against all opponents of its group, and will try to collect points. For a win in Regulation Time (60 minutes) the team will earn 3 points to the table. The losing team in Regulation Time (60 minutes) will earn 0 points. Remember that every match must have a winner, so if a game will finish by a tie after the 60 minutes of Regulation Time, the match will have to continue in a 5 minutes "sudden death" Overtime (played in the crazy format of 3 skaters vs 3, in the larger IIHF rink sizes it´s really something to watch ), when one of the teams scores in that overtime, the match is immediately finished and the scoring team will be announced as winner of the match, the winning team wil earn 2 points. The losing team after Overtime will earn 1 point. If the match is still tied even after the 5 minutes Overtime, the game will have to be decided in the Penalyt Shoot-Out Session. Five different shooters from each team will take alternate shots, until a decisive goal is scored. If still tied, the PSO will resume with a tie-break shoot out by one player of each team, with a reversed shooting order. The same or new players can take the tie-break shots. The winning team will earn (like after the Overtime) 2 points and the losing team 1 point The top 4 teams from both groups will then qualify for the Quarterfinals (Winner of Group A vs 4th of Group B, 2nd of Group A vs 3rd of Group B, Winner of Group B vs 4th of Group A and 2nd of Group B vs 3rd of Group A) Remember that if teams are tied on points in the table, the main and only used tie-breaker will be the direct head to head confrontation so the winner of the match between the concerned teams will rank higher. In Caseof a points tie between 3 or more teams a special mini-tally between the results of the concerned teams will be created with the following tie-breakers being applied The tournament will be over for teams ranked 5th-8th in their groups after the preliminary round and will be ranked as follows 5th teams of preliminary round groups will be ranked 9th and 10th places according to which of the two teams had 1) more points, 2) overall score, 3) more scored goals, 4) Higher seeding position before the tournaments start based on IIHF World Ranking 6th teams of preliminary round groups will be ranked 11th and 12th places according to which of the two teams had 1) more points, 2) overall score, 3) more scored goals, 4) Higher seeding position before the tournaments start based on IIHF World Ranking 7th teams of preliminary round groups will be ranked 13th and 14th places according to which of the two teams had 1) more points, 2) overall score, 3) more scored goals, 4) Higher seeding position before the tournaments start based on IIHF World Ranking The both last ranked teams of preliminary round groups will be ranked 15th and 16th places according to which of the two teams had 1) more points, 2) overall score, 3) more scored goals, 4) Higher seeding position before the tournaments start based on IIHF World Ranking The last Ranked teams (8th) of both Preliminary Groups will be relegated to the next year´s Men´s Division I Group A World Championship 2020 and will be replaced by Kazakhstan and Belarus, freshly promoted nations from this years Div. I A tournament held last week in Kazakhstan. *Important to note: has the immunity this year. So if (unlikely, but let say hypothetically) Switzerland finished last 8th in theBratislava Group, it will use its immunity and thus can not be relegated. The second relegated nation will be then the 14th ranked nation of this tournament (the worst team of the 7th placed teams of both groups) so in theory, for example may happen that 2 teams from the Košice group will be relegated and none from the Bratislava Group. but again it is highly unlikely to see Switzerland finishing last of its group. *Remember also that in IIHF WCH program the national anthems are not played before the match starts, The National anthem is played only after every match and only the national anthem of the winner of the game
  3. Who’s coming to the Worlds? The 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship starts tomorrow and tonight the teams will registering the players. This is what you need to know: Teams haven’t had to register full rosters until now, however, teams are of course practising together and teams announced the rosters they intend to have here in Bratislava and Kosice. Tonight at the Directorate Meeting teams have to register a minimum number of 15 skaters and 2 goalies who have to be here while the maximum roster size is 22 skaters and 3 goalies. The remaining players up to the allowed maximum can be added until two hours before a game until the roster is full. During a game a team may enter up to 20 skaters and 2 goaltenders on the official game sheet. Once the teams register players, you will find them in the section TEAMS in the menu on 2019.iihfworlds.com and in the mobile app 2019 IIHF that is available in the Apple Store and Google Play. Below are the current and informal camp rosters of the 16 teams as announced by them prior to the start of the tournament. (or in this Totallympics thread 1st page 2nd post ) IIHF.COM

  5. The Russian players celebrated today the "Den pobedy" in Bratislava One day before the World Championships start in Slovakia, The Russian hockey players remembered the end of World War II. On the occasion of the Day of Victory on Thursday (Russia celebrate it the 9th May, instead of the Slovakian 8th May for example), they laid flowers and wreaths on the Bratislava Memorial "Slavin" Cemetery.
  6. You´re welcome. It should work like that for all countries all over the world (ofc if any match will be somehow broadcasted by any your TV Channel in Croatia the televised match will be automatically blocked on youtube, but all other non televised matches in Croatia will be available for free on youtube). In Slovakia we will not be able to watch anything from youtube livestreaming, because our national TV will cover live and multiple times replays of all games in TV and on their special web platform https://hokej.rtvs.sk/program/2019-05-10
  7. As far as I know, in Croatia all games will be available via livestreaming in the official IIHF youtube channel. If games are not broadcasted in your country, you may follow them on the live stream.

  9. This was one insanely disastrous match from both our goalies ! Especially Peter Budaj, probably his worst match in all his career, he literally got a goal from every shot..never seen anything like that before and then (after being quickly replaced after only 5 minute - and the match was already done) also Rastislav Staňa... This was seriously one extremely embarassing afternoon
  10. Breaking news After Columbus elimination in the Stanley Cup Play-Offs, good news for and + Alexandre Texier the new french super talent will join team in Košice and the 19 year old prodigy will became this year the only NHL reinforcement for "les bleus" Also , received approval from their Columbus Blue Jackets player, the team will be reinforced by Dean Kukan And Vladislav Gavrikov received the invitation from team, they are still waiting for his answer. It is not certain if Ilya Vorobiov the Russian coach will send the invitation also for the other 2 players of Columbus Artemi Panarin and Sergei Boborovsky. They already even afforded themselves the luxury to send home one of their NHLer the Arizona Coyotes defencer Ilya Lyubushkin what other countries would do to have such player in their team...but Russia just doesn´t need him, because they already have 8 other NHLers in their defence lol
  11. Right, but it will take some time, maybe even a decade, we are just going through a generational exchange. we have some interesting talents and prospects (obviously not so big like the 2000s generation, but decent too) but they need time. I am curious to see how our youngs will do this year (I mean the likes of Černák, Fehervary, Studenič, Liška and so) especially under the huge pressure they will face at the home world champs, because obviously they are the guys we are going to raly on them in the next years. Well, Finland was always like our adopted hockey country, and we had the feeling it was somehow mutual. I´ll never forget the commentator during that silver WCh journey. clearly without any shame cheering at full gaz for our guys
  12. I remember I was crying that morning watching our guys crying but yeah, it was our fault, we had it in our hands, but messed everything with dumb mistakes in the last 10 or so minutes... pity.. we´ll probably never have such amazing team and such chances again
  13. Thanks for the reminder, very kind of you very likely the worst 20 minutes in SVK Ice Hockey history or second worst just after the last 20 minutes of Vancouver 2010 bronze medal match
  14. @Agger @wumo26 Team Denmark just landed successfully in Košice. Welcome Danmark
  15. Heinz Ehlers announced his 25 players roster for the world championships. will have 2 reinforcements from NHL, with forwards Mikkel Boedker from Ottawa Senators and the Stanley Cup winner Lars Ellers of Washington Capitals. the 2 other players from North American ice in the team are Joachim Blichfeld from juniors WHL and Mathias Bau from AHL Hershey Bears. The remaining 21 spots are fullfiled with european based players, as usual, the largest part of them came from leagues (11 of them played in Sweden last season !) Interesting to mention also the 4 KHLers in the team, all from Jokerit Helsinki ! Denmark played 7 preparation games last weeks with a record of 2 W - 7 L The positive and promising thing for the Danes, is that the 2 wins came at the end of the preparation camps 1-0 in Norway and 3-1 in the last test match before the WCh in Austria. Except the defeat in Norway in the last April weekend 3-4 OT, the team lost all first 4 games of their preparation period against the two Nordic powerhouses 0-1 and 1-2 at home to Finland and 2-3 and 0-2 to Sweden.
  16. TEAM DENMARK Goaltenders: Sebastian Dahm (Iserlohn Roosters, ) Patrick Galbraith (SönderjyskE Ishockey) Simon Nielsen (Herning Blue Fox) Defencers: Phillip Bruggisser (Krefeld Pinguine, ) Matias Lassen (Malmö Redhawks, ) Oliver Larsen (IK Pantern, Div. II, ) Stefan Lassen (Almtuna IS, Div. III, ) Nicholas B. Jensen (Fischtown Pinguins, ) Jesper Jensen Aabo (Jokerit Helsinki, KHL, ) Oliver Lauridsen (Jokerit Helsinki, KHL, ) Markus Lauridsen (HV 71 Jönköping, ) Forwards: Lars Eller (Washington Capitals, NHL, ) Mikkel Bödker (Ottawa Senators, NHL, ) Morten Madsen (Timra IK, ) Nicolai Meyer (Södertalje SK, Div. 17. and btw after some controversy around our jersey, our team has decided to play in the traditional jerseys at this WCh, so the one with the national emblem.. They announced and presented it today during the final nomination announcement. so here our jerseys for the championship
  18. So what the whole country was waiting for just happened, The Canadian coach Craig Ramsay and the general manager Miroslav Šatan announced the final 25 players roster for the home world championships. The coaches had to remove from the list 3 players to make the final amount of 25. Sadly the dream has ended for the defencer Mário Grman and two forwards the experienced fresh czech champion with Třinec Tomáš Marcinko and the young talent and this seasons Slovak Extraliga MVP Samuel Buček, all three are scratched from the list now just 2 days to go... Since Boston won the 2nd round NHL Stanley Cup Play-Offs we can not be reinforced by our "Bruins trio" Jaroslav Halák, Zdeno Chára and Peter Cehlárik, especially the absence of the goalie Halák is unfortunate for us, we were really hoping for him as our top netminder...but well, what can we do, now let´s hope and wish all the best and the triumph in the Stanley Cup for our trio. Also the AHL Charlotte forward Tomáš Jurčo can not reinforce us, Charlotte is leading 3-0 in its AHL Calder Cup play-offs series (with Jurčo being in awesome shape lately--so it´s even more sad for us).. so by this our team for the preliminary round is finalized. We will have 6 NHLers and 3 AHLers in our team (the defencers Černák, Jaroš, Sekera, Marinčin and forwards Tatar and Pánik from NHL) + Marko Daňo who jumped this season from NHL to AHL and back and 2 AHL youngsters (Rybár and Studenič) Worth to mention, we will have four U21 players in our team ! That´s definitely not something every coach will have guts to do for a home WCh ! The youngest being the 19 years old Adam Liška, followed by 20 years old Martin Fehérváry and Marián Studenič, Erik Černák is 21 years old. The oldest will be the 39 years old (Currently the last SVK World Champion 2002 still playing) former NHL star and Košice legend Ladislav Nagy, who will finish his career at this tournament at his home city. ! What a moment this will be for our Laci Nagy. Speaking about Košice, 4 Košice born players are in the team and will experience that incredible moment in their life to play the world championships in their birth city. The NHL Defencers Erik Černák, Christián Jaroš (both are btw cousins) and Martin Marinčin. + the already mentioned club legend the forward Ladislav Nagy. The defencer Patrik Koch is another player with some connections with the host championships city, since he is player of HC Košice. We played 9 preparation matches during last month with a final record of 4 W - 5 L The start of the preparation wasn´t exactly successful with home defeat in Topoľčany the 4th April to Sweden 0-4, a week later 2 new defeats happened in Germany against the home team 1-2 and 1-3. The first wins arrived at the end of the third week camp of preparation, with wins in both matches in Austria against the host team 5-1 and 2-1 PSO, The last Aprils preparation week camp finished with two home defeats in the "federal derby" to the Czech Republic 1-3 in Trenčín and 0-2 in Nitra. In the last 2 weeks we had our final preparation training camps and two more preparation matches, winning both of them 6-1 in Poprad over Great Britain last weekend and 3-2 after Overtime yesterday against Norway in Michalovce.
  19. TEAM SLOVAKIA Goaltenders: Denis Godla (KalPa Kuopio, ) Marek Čiliak (Kometa Brno, ) Patrik Rybár (Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL, ) Defencers: Patrik Koch (HC Košice) Marek Ďaloga (Mora IK, ) Michal Čajkovský (Dinamo Moscow, KHL, ) Martin Fehérváry (HV 71 Jönköping, ) Christián Jaroš (Ottawa Senators, NHL, ) Andrej Sekera (Edmonton Oilers, NHL, ) Erik Černák (Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL, ) Martin Marinčin (Toronto Maple Leafs, NHL, ) Forwards: Dávid Bondra (HK Poprad) Dávid Buc (Slovan Bratislava, KHL) Róbert Lantoši (HK Nitra) Adam Liška (Slovan Bratislava, KHL) Michal Krištof (Karpat Oulu, ) Libor Hudáček (Bíli Tygři Liberec, ) Ladislav Nagy (HC Košice) Matúš Sukeľ (Slovan Bratislava, KHL) Tomáš Zigo (HC05 Banská Bystrica) Marián Studenič (Binghamton Devils, AHL, ) Richard Pánik (Arizona Coyotes, NHL, ) Tomáš Tatar (Montreal Canadiens, NHL, ) Marko Daňo (Manitoba Moose, AHL, ) Mário Lunter (HC05 Banská Bystrica)
  20. Road to Bratislava/Košice Team Presentation (2 Days to Go) Switzerland Team Jersey Home Away Medal Record
  21. Teams and arrived few minutes ago to Košice by the same plane
  22. Toni Söderholm the coach of annonuced today the full 25 players roster for the World Champs. He removed from the list the last 2 names to cut it to the final 25. Hard luck for the Ingolstadt blueliner Fabio Wagner and Fabio Pfohl the forward of Cologne who had to leave the team. Germany will be able to count on the help of 3 NHLers this time with the brightest and strongest name being arguably Leon Draisaitl the Edmonton Oilers forward, the other 2 are Korbinian Holzer the Anaheim defencer and Dominik Kahun the Chicago forward. Behind the three mentioned NHLers we can find in the roster one player from the North American University league NCAA the talented Marc Michaelis. All other spots are fulfilled only by players from the local domestic DEL league. The reigning Olympic silver medalists played 7 preparation matches during last weeks with a record of 3 W - 4 L They started the preparation in early April with wins in both home games against Slovakia 2-1 and 3-1, the 3rd win came against Austria 2 weeks ago also at home 5-1. The 4 defeats: in both matches in Czech Republic to the hosts 4-5 and 4-5 the 2nd April weekend, the first match with Austria at home 2-3 and yesterday in the last test match before the departure to the world champs against one of the WCh top favorites USA 2-5.
  23. TEAM GERMANY Goaltenders: Niklas Treutle (Nürnberg Ice Tigers) Mathias Niederberger (EG Düsseldorf) Philipp Grubauer (Colorado Avalanche, NHL, ) Defencers: Denis Reul (Adler Mannheim) Moritz Seider (Adler Mannheim) Korbinian Holzer (Anaheim Ducks, NHL, ) Marco Nowak (EG Düsseldorf) Benedikt Schopper (Straubing Tigers) Yannic Seidenberg (EHC Red Bull München) Jonas Müller (Eisbären Berlin) Moritz Müller (Kölner Haie) Forwards: Stefan Loibl (Straubing Tigers) Matthias Plachta (Adler Mannheim) Markus Eisenschmid (Adler Mannheim) Frank Mauer (EHC Red Bull München) Yasin Ehliz (EHC Red Bull München) Patrick Hager (EHC Red Bull München) Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers, NHL, ) Gerrit Fauser (Grizzlys Wolfsburg) Lean Bergmann (Iserlohn Roosters) Marc Michaelis (Minnesota State University, NCAA, ) Dominik Kahun (Chicago Blackhawks, NHL, ) Leonhard Pföderl (Nürnberg Ice Tigers) Marcel Noebels (Eisbären Berlin) Frederik Tiffels (Kölner Haie)
  24. Well, on paper USA has the fastest and strongest offensive. No doubts about. You are huge favs in that match too, but I don´t see the result being so high around 15-1 In fact, sorry for this little off topic but.. I am really curious to see how you guys from NA will do on our ice, The Košice (where USA and CAN will play their first round) ice rink surface size is the largest in the country, this will require more skating. + the angles, the place behind the net and everything is totally different from the NHL North American ice rink sizes, that should be especially difficult to adapt for the goaltenders (we already saw yesterday Canada conceded 5 goals from Austria in the test game lol because the goalie had huge problems with reading the game). The 3vs3 overtime on this ice size is also a absolutely different chapter, you have suddenly so much place on ice, this suit much more skilled players to show some nice tricks. but overall, I mean, it´s not easy for NA player to get used to european rinks (and particularly to our "airport") so early, it requires some training sessions and matches. your players will certainly be surprised by the ice size when they will enter the the ice for their first training today
