  1. I don’t have a problem with it. I can bump my voting deadline by a day or two, or just cycle your song in.
  2. will send 522 athletes to Santiago. Link: https://www.coarg.org.ar/component/k2/item/13400-santiago-2023-delegacion-argentina
  3. 6 AAFs so far according to the ITA. - 2 (both male, both athletics) - 1 (male boxer) - 1 (female cyclist) - 1 (men’s silver medalist in kurash) - 1 (male cyclist) Full list here: https://ita.sport/sanction/asian-games-hangzhou/
  4. It has to be pretty embarrassing to finish last in your event, and then return AAF Results Link: https://info.hangzhou2022.cn/en/results/athletics/result-men-s-3000m-steeplechase-fnl-000100-.htm second AAF in athletics at Hangzhou 2022…
  5. For those in need of a good laugh, or cry, about the current state of boxing I suppose…
  6. getting a medal in the men’s road race seems like a very unexpected result. Too bad this wasn’t the Asian Championships, otherwise they’d have an Olympic quota in their pocket.
  7. Do you have a preference as to the spelling of your nation? I’ve noticed “Qazaqstan” is becoming more fashionable lately.
  8. Besides the outliers (both hosts of sub-regional multi-sports games), the trend of smaller delegations continues. I’m more concerned about representation across sports though. I have the stats from 2007-2019, so it will be interesting to compare.
  9. Missed this last week, but are now members of the IPC. Link: https://www.paralympic.org/news/paralympic-family-grows-208-ipc-welcomes-five-new-members
  10. Basically, each user chooses a song for their nation (in this case it must be older than 5 years). Users then listen to all the selected songs and rank their favorites. Voting works just like Eurovision, with a live reveal happening country-by-country during the “grand final.” The main commitment for users is listening to the songs and ranking them. TISC is a fun way to interact with other users and learn a bit about each other’s cultures. It’s definitely not mandatory, but it’s a nice supplementary activity to regular operations of the forum. I’m happy to explain anything else if needed. If you wish to participate on behalf of Egypt or the UK, please indicate your interest (and select a song) by Friday. If you don’t wish to participate, see you in other threads
  11. I’m just going to “spit-ball” with laundry list of ideas and potential connections to science. 1) Bobsleigh design/mechanics as it relates to aerodynamics, friction, and weight distribution. 2) Evolutionary advantages/disadvantages when it comes to swimming. With swimming, you could also talk about the “super suits” and why they were so effective a decreasing times. 3) Energy return in shoes. Hot topic in athletics at moment. You could also look into energy return in different surfaces (grass, sand, mud, asphalt, concrete, cobblestone) 4) The breathing techniques behind free diving. 5) There’s quite a bit you could go with head injuries in various sports (football, American football, rugby, cycling, bobsleigh, skateboarding, etc.) 6) I believe there’s data that states female athletes are suffering joint injuries at a higher rate than men (at least in football), maybe you could look into the scientific theories about that. It’s a bit of a research hot spot in the U.S. at the moment. 7) Wheel hardness in skateboarding and in-line skating. You could look into the chemicals used and how it affects performance in various environments/disciplines. 8) There was that guy who went skydiving without a parachute a few years back (landed in a large net), surely there’s something about physics there. 9) tidal forces and how they impact surfing. Tidal bore surfing might be an interesting case study. 10) The science behind a lot of the para sports is probably interesting (sit-skis, racing wheelchairs, tandem bikes). 11) You could do a case study on athletics with unique biological advantages like Eero Mäntyranta. Link: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/magic-blood-and-carbon-fiber-legs-at-the-brave-new-olympics/ ESPN had/has a nice series of short videos on sport science. I’m not sure if this playlist is available outside the US (I’m also pretty sure it’s not complete), but I’m sure you could clips on YouTube. Link: Hopefully you find some of that helpful @ManuCHIL
  12. @Griff88 IWGA posted some badminton newsreel from the 1981 World Games.
  13. There will only be three matches held in South America. If they’re all in the group stage, it shouldn’t be too big a logistical nightmare. It’s still kind of dumb, but maybe not batshit crazy
  14. I think there might be some financial benefits to qualifying athletes the traditional for NOCs. I think the bill is a bit longer for “open entry” athletes. The qualification system is kind of confusing in this regard.
  15. She finished towards the back of the pack, so maybe cost-benefit (medal possibly) analysis.
  16. This page also seems to display some program decisions that weren’t already known…(assuming it’s final/correct) Lacrosse and flag football will be held again, but there will only be a women’s tournament in each sport. Racquetball is set to get a doubles event. Men will get to compete in boules again. Heyball has been added to billiards. Men’s softball is set to be included over baseball. Para Dance is set to include 8 events! …And, most consequently to me, track speed skating looks to have been dropped
  17. IWGA has already begun tracking quotas: https://www.theworldgames.org/editions/Chengdu-CHN-2025-14/qualifications/by-sport
  18. Are budget problems really that widespread at the moment, or are there other factors? @dcro( tagging you in case there’s extracurricular drama here)
  19. Does the “IB” in the title stand for “International Baccalaureate,” or does it mean something else? Just curious since that’s what IB means in California.
  20. Pretty significant delegation increase for shrinking by a few, which I feel is more common amongst the “smaller” NOCs this cycle.
  21. will send their largest delegation ever to the Games. Total: 667. Link: https://teamchile.cl/santiago2023/delegacion/
  22. I assumed he had retired. He’s pretty much been absent from the top flight of the sport since the pandemic (as you pointed out). I was absolutely stunned to see him win the gold medal. You could see how much it meant to him. needs to invest in a good sports psychologist for Leonardo and Katibin
