  1. Los Angeles renamed the area outside the Saudi consulate.
  2. The canoe sprint commentator celebrated China’s victory in one of the 1000m events at the 200m start line, while the roller skating commentator wanted to add an extra lap to the 1000m sprint (which called the “100m sprint).
  3. both hosted multi-sports games with ice hockey on the program in the last four years. just hosted a tournament, no? It seems wild that the reason for cancellation would be a lack of hosts. Then again, if no one wants to host, I guess none of those programs are too committed to Olympic qualification anyway
  4. This is kind of thing I hate about the current Olympics. If you’re going to let an NOC qualify three athletes, they might as well be given the option to enter the team event.
  5. Richard Carapaz will reportedly take part in the men’s road race. @hckošice
  6. Dumb question, but if a nation qualifies three individual athletes, can they form a composite team?
  7. Might have to start keeping score of English commentators versus the common Vietnamese name “Nguyen.” I don’t think I’ve heard a single international feed commentator get it right so far… Kind of embarrassing at the Asian Games.
  8. It’s not her best song*, so that’s probably why no one has submitted it * not her best song = not my favorite
  9. Yeah, if we could get a table like the one @JoshMartini007 made for the South American Games, that would be awesome and much appreciated.
  10. really likes to flirt with the quota/no quota line when it comes to the team event
  11. Flame lighting ceremony will be broadcast live tomorrow.
  12. The esports PDF Reports could definitely be improved. They mostly just lost wins/losses, but don’t include any game stats. Surely, it wouldn’t be that hard to include that information
  13. The roller sports venue is probably one of the best ever constructed. In spite of my political differences with the country, China definitely knows a thing or two about sports infrastructure.
  14. I can definitely see the downside of having too many parties represented in European nations, but as someone whose lived under the infamous two party system, I do envy the level of political representation in that case.
  15. They could try to remedy those “dead” votes by reallocating them to the voters next party of choice. They’d have to change the law to allow ranked-choice voting though.
  16. Progressive Slovakia way off those numbers according to Reuters and AP. It’s looking more like another populist victory …So Slovakians basically looked at the current GOP (to draw parallels to the US), and thought, “I want that.” How unfortunate.
  17. Oh right, I forgot about that. It’s free when you pay for admission to the stadium, so as a package deal, it’s worth it. They do have a complete/near complete set of official posters and torches, which isn’t super common. The gift shop is still selling some Athens 2004 merchandise
  18. I voted from a community hall at my local skatepark/public pool during the 2022 General Election. In other elections, I voted at a local nature preserve and a public library.
  19. USOPC opened a museum in Colorado Springs. I haven’t been yet, but the reviews I read were pretty good. Park City has a nice museum at the Olympic Center, right above the bobsleigh track. It mostly has stuff from the 2002 Winter Olympics. Vancouver and Palisades Tahoe have some ones celebrating their editions as well. I don’t remember much about either.
  20. Elon Musk publicizing a post calling support of the AfD in German elections
  21. IPC General Assembly voted to impose a partial suspension on the Russian Federation. They can’t keep in team events, nor will athletes compete as representatives of the country. Notably, the vote to re-impose a full suspension of membership only failed by about 10-11 votes. 60+ countries voted in favor, which is higher than I would have guessed. Definitely still a lot of anger with Russia for disrupting the Paralympics, doping, and waging war on Ukraine.
