  1. Sad realization that I should have been flying over the Pacific Ocean right now I feel terrible for anyone involved in the Games; Athletes, officials, spectators, volunteers, locals, journalists, etc. We should all be preparing for the world’s greatest festival of sport, instead most of us are sitting at home wondering if the Games can even happen next year.
  2. breakdown of survey sourced in the article: https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2020/07/342812540942-urgent-59-discontent-with-japan-govt-response-to-pandemic-poll.html
  3. I don’t think it’d be much of a spoiler, but out of caution, I’ll to talk about it until a different day.
  4. I am familiar with 8 of the artists and 5 of the songs in this contest. That is by far the most of any TISC for me.
  5. The Orangers are gettin rather close to being 100 points ahead of Mellow Yellow. I don’t know if there’s every been such a gap between first and last this early in the Marble League.
  6. This is one of those posts where I need the ability to both react with laughing face and crying face.
  7. Ooooooooooooooo! Another solid performance and podium for the marbles in orange! We hold the overall lead now too!
  8. More young people protesting for change.
  9. Yes, Indonesia was banned. North Korea and China choose to boycott the Games though.
  10. I haven’t heard anything about that (probably because the IOC and other Olympic scholars love covering stuff like that up to save face), but would also be interested to know if that’s true.
  11. I see the censors are working hard tonight.
  12. I recently found the BBC animated promo for Vancouver 2010, and I absolutely love it!
  13. Pierre De Coubertin and the Olympic Charter. Of course the IOC hasn’t really lived by the values of either, but it’s not wrong for us to wish they would.
  14. Speech from an Inuit leader after the team won the Grey Cup in 2015: https://nunatsiaq.com/stories/article/65674natan_obed_why_the_name_edmonton_eskimos_harms_inuit/
  15. @intoronto I just saw a news report from two days ago that said the hoop dancer from the 2015 Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony died. Is that true?
  16. Not quite sure where to to leave this since we don’t have a CFL thread, so I’ll just post it here.
  17. Africa threatened to boycott the 1968 Olympics so hard that they got the IOC to toss out South Africa until apartheid ended The Eastern Block also threatened to join that boycott. Olympic boycotts (or close calls) were extremely common throughout the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. They happened for all types of reasons too. Podium protests were also a big issue in that period. Anyone remember the 1964 Summer Olympic boycott?
  18. That is what upsets me most about U.S. action/opinion on international affairs/events. I’m fine with, and enjoy taking, the moral high ground, but don’t pollute it with a bunch of hypocrisy.
