  6. Reminder that the Refugee Olympic Team will be announced this week.
  7. I believe it was decided a few months ago, but it was just notcied today, waterskiing events have been dropped from the program. The sport will only feature events in wakeboard, cable wakeboard, and wakesurf (skimboard).
  8. He also won a gold medal at last year's European Games.
  9. missed out on a potential universality quota in women's surfing. I'm not sure what their other prospects are at the moment.
  10. I'm going to cross-post this to breathe a little life back into the club threads. Team Update and Thoughts (April 2024) Current Quotas: 2 Archery - 1 (men's individual recurve) Fencing - 1 (men's foil) Schembri and D'Amour qualifiying has provided some nice relief after a rather quiet qualification season. Both are certainly some of the islands' best athletic prospects. If they stay healthly and avoid any miscellaneous issues, I look forward to seeing what results they can achieve in Paris. Ideal Quota Allocation: 6-8 Other users simulated 8 quotas for Team ISV, which feels a bit generous at this moment (not that it wasn't appreicated ). I'm definitely keeping my eye on Michelle Smith (athletics). If she can get a quota in the women's 400m hurdles, I believe that will garantee an additional male quota in athletics as well. Other than Smith, I can't envision any other quotas outside universality allocations. I have no idea which sports/athletes the NOC targeted, but the following allocation would leave me very pleased: Archery - 1 (women's individual recurve) Golf - 1 (women's individual) [Swayne had that nice 6th place result at Santiago 2023. It would be cool to see her compete in Paris.] Swimming - 2 Sailing - ? [I don't feel like it was a particularly great cycle for the sailing team. Dale might be a candidate for a universality quota in ILCA7 though.]
  11. She jumped 6.94m at the Jeux de la Francophonie last year, which is how she qualified for Paris 2024.
  12. This is entirely an anecdotal inquiry since qualification isn’t finished yet (and we may need more than one or two cycles of data), but I do wonder if those NOCs will be the ones hardest hit by the quota cuts over the last two/three cycles.
  13. Is Koala becoming a legitimate medal threat in Paris? Cool to see her transition from heptathlon going well at least.
  14. It's a nice thought, but it isn't very practical. 26th would be close to the cutoff or behind it in many other individual sports as well. The community can hope for more quotas in future editions, but sports have to make do with what they have now.
  15. Of course, you're also talking about qualification to a "one off" event. I personally like that fencers can qualify through by individual ranking or continental tournaments. I think there are some changes you could make to help more top ranked individual fencers qualify through the rankings, but I like that individual athletes get two chances at qualification.
  16. Right, but the point of reserved continental places is to increase diversity and the amount of qualified nations. Sailing and Rowing have pretty solid qualification systems in my opinion. I'd maybe queak a rule here or there, but I think they do a decent job at balancing international representation and the qualification of elite crews.
  17. There were two further editions of the Olympic Games before I was born. Feel old again?
  18. I'll try to watch/follow just about any event I can, but the sports or events I'm looking most forward to are... 7. Breaking 6. Canoe Slalom (all events) 5. Skateboard (all events) 4. Road Cycling (road races) 3. Sport Climbing (all events) 2. Equestrian Eventing 1. Triathlon (all events) For me, I'm more interested in events held at unique venues, and/or close rivalries or other interesting storylines. I included breaking becuase I'm very curious to see what an Olympic competition looks like, and it how is received by those who tune-in and don't immediately dismiss it.
  19. Yes, picked up that quota. Link: https://www.gymnastics.sport/site/news/displaynews.php?urlNews=4144898
  20. That was my interpretation originally, which is why I questioned you about it.
