Russia-Ukraine Crisis Consequences in Sports

You got me all wrong here. we agree 100% here. this is reaction is because - well, „here we go again” feeling and i just only want to watch one Olympics without CNN alerts scaring me all the time… -
I have a plane to catch today, I won't be active in this forum next couple of days (lucky you, no more spam for some time), but if anyone's want to carry on with this thread, do it please, you are free to go. For me personally it is very interesting topic and i'm very curious how it's gonna look like when we finish with all 15 days of olympic events back in LA. Bye!
-
From now on, i wlll try to do it day by day, according to LA 1984 schedule. Day 2 events were: Cycling Track - Men's Individual Time Trial (can't understand why this isn't an olympic event anymore, so fun to watch) Shooting - Men's 50m Rifle Prone Swimming - Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay Swimming - Men's 100m Butterfly Swimming - Men's 400m Individual Medley Swimming - Women's 200m Freestyle Swimming - Women's 200m Breaststroke Weightlifting - Men's 56kg (Bantamweight) EDIT: there was M 400 IM, not M 200 IM on day 2 in LA 1984, my mistake...
-
Time to finish day 1 in LA (not-boycotted) 1984 games. In cycling I think it could look like that: W race was not contested in Friendship Games (i don't know why, maybe in the 80s women's road cycling wasn't that popular among these NOCs) so i think we can just add our real LA results to our day 1 summary. In M race Grewal & Bauer finished 1 and 2 at the same time, so let's just imagine they could go that way even if there were some GDR and URS riders in the mix as well. I would say bronze medal for Friendships winner Alexandr Zinovyev (who finished with the s.t. as Raab and Mierzejewski there). And that's it, day 1 is done.

As promised, I will write here about TANZANIA from time to time. Before we go to Paris 2024 quailification chances, let's go back into history first. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanzania_at_the_Olympics Tanzania never won a gold at the olympics. They got 2 silver medals. Both in athletics in Moscow 1980. From Polish perspective, the most known is Men's 3000m Steeplechase when Filbert Bayi was chased by Bronisław Malinowski and finally it was 1. POL 2. TAN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7zsSq6LvHs&t=441s A run for ages, very-well remembered here in Poland, as Monzanator correctly pointed it out in one of other thread here. Second TAN silver was Suleiman Nyambui in Men's 5000m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rJqAp0vldk ... In Tokyo 2020 TAN had 3 athletes, 2 men and 1 woman, all of them competing in marathon in Sapporo. So, to the best of my knowledge, but I may be wrong here, TAN was the only one NOC which didn't perform in Tokyo actually, all of them performed in Sapporo only. The best result was obviously Alphonce Felix Simbu who finished 7th in men's marathon and he is by far the best Tanzanian athlete in olympic sports these days. Simbu was in the leading pack for quite a long time but he couldn't get a medal in the end. They also got DNF in men's marathon (Gabriel Gerald Geay) and 24th place in women's race (Failuna Matanga). Simbu was a flag bearer in the closing ceremony, he obviously deserved it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanzania_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics He went on to win silver medal in marathon at 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was their best result in Birmingham, they got only one silver there and additionally - 2 bronze medals in boxing. ... TBC...

It’s a pity we are co-hosts but our team is much worse than few years ago. I wonder how they perform against Slovenia the most.

It's 50/50. In 2008 they didn't - Georgia. In 2014 they didn't. In 2022 Mr. Putin flew to China before the games, they agreed that the war has to wait, not to spoil the Chinese headlines and everything started on Feb 24th. So they some-kind-of did. Or rather: they used this time for final preparations, so they didn't. If they are in Paris 2024 they will uphold an olympic truce for 2.5 week then. But they come back to what they do a few days later. If they aren't in Paris 2024 - they won't uphold an olympic truce. Possibly not only in Ukraine. That's my bet, as things stand today. -

Surely I know what you mean. And you are probably right. No, you are 100% right. But, you know, it is just human thing. We're not perfect. That's quite understandable that we are so worried about this war here in Poland and Cenral / Eastern Europe (however you wanna call it) just because it is so close and it affects people we know in person. I know many Ukrainians, believe me. And also Lithuanians, Estonians, so that's how it is. I know it shouldn't be like that, but what can I say... Belarus and Russia are basically one country now. I had Ukrainian people at home, now they are safe in UK. I put them on that plane. A lot of happened and a lot of is gonna happen... Welcome to The Hard Times.

Agree. This war will not end before the next US President elections, I'm afraid. But there may be some kind of ceasefire shortly before Paris Games... and after the olympics, the war may be there again... We will see Macron sitting at this loooooong table in Moscow some time in the spring 2024 I think... -

that would be very very sad, if everyone's in and only Ukraine is out of it.
