  1. Oh come on, another one of the dozens and dozens of movies that are 'arguably the greatest film in history'? I've seen Arrival. Weird as shit, but pretty interesting. Main good thing for me was that it wasn't the millionth movie with aliens that are basically human-like except for a different colour, language and technology.
  2. I'm reading Stephen King's The Long Walk, there's sort of an athletic element in it so that's cool.
  3. Or also somewhat if they had recently won their 9th title and so now the 10th would suddenly make a difference, but they won that when the echoes of the WW2 artillery had barely even died down
  4. Sure, but since we're still fighting the virus and the number one thing still remains social distancing...take a seat a few meters away please
  5. I'm glad my job which I was supposed to start (at least the three-month traineeship) this week, but has been pushed back to 1 May for now, is in the field of psychological care...there's undoubtedly always going to be people needing that, even more after a crisis like this
  6. What on earth would the motivation be for only crowning B.93 champion?
  7. Since Saturday's half marathon in my little town is of course cancelled, which was supposed to be my second ever official one after my somewhat botched debut last year, there's a slight change of plans. I've been training of course and it's going pretty well, so I have more or less decided to go and run a half marathon anyway on Saturday, just on a different, not pre-determined route - I don't live in a city and it's pretty straightforward here to run while making sure you don't get too close to people. Not really a time goal here and I'm just gonna try and take it easy from the start on, but I'm in pretty decent shape so let's do it. Plus Saturday is the last day of Autism Week (which started Saturday the 28th here, for some reason), so that's an excellent goal for me to keep in mind as a way to close the week. Tl;dr --> Saturday, half marathon.
  8. If only people would do that while staying 1,5 or 2 meters away from each other, there wouldn't be that much of a problem (it would in fact be good, since now more than ever it's important to stay healthy and make sure you get a healthy dose of fresh air and such), but for some weird reason people feel the need to be physically close to each other outside
  9. Oh well, those governing suits like to look important in pretty places, making people believe they do it out of kindness or something. No, FIS officials don't care about the Mexican federation and ISU officials don't care about the Thai federation other than both of them being able to give them a nice beach resort with some good drinks.
  10. At least Croatia has regular FIS races every winter (and Greece does too, I believe) But Cancun. Lol.
  11. Yeah, don't kid yourself in thinking the old guys in the suits know that. They only see a free beach vacation with plenty of drinks and anything Phuket has to offer.
  12. ISU's congress for June has been postponed to next year. It was due to be held in Phuket and yes, that's in Thailand. The fancy old boys were going on an expensive beach vacation to freaking Thailand to talk about the future of speed skating, figure skating and so on. Thailand. Of all places.
  13. Another crisis meeting here tomorrow, probably the result of that will be that the precautions until 6 April will be extended. There's not really any more precautions to be expected, since we're already at basically the realistic limit of what you can do without losing the balance and compromising people's health and lives in other ways. The main focus is on increasing the number of available ICU beds, half of which have been cut away in past years because it was deemed too expensive to keep them
  14. Because things like this are okay for dictators.
  15. Yep, thanks for that. It sucks, but it sucks less than finding it out in December. I'll ask Gabriela Neres if she's planning to go there, 2021 will be what's now her last year of eligibility and I know she's at university, it'd be really cool if she can go.
  16. It has now been confirmed by the Brazilian federation on which I better make no remark as to their quality and know-how: no Winter Universiade for her.
  17. I can barely remember that anyway even if I've watched every single final live, nothing changes for me there The previous Olympics are a little over two years ago and with most events - even though I've seen them - I'm gonna need Wikipedia to know who won.
  18. Nah, only in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, then we go back to normal Personally I quite like it, more world championships and less of the continental championships that often feel a bit depleted anyway.
  19. Not really, but also because he is just not articulating very well it seems
  20. A Namibian song with a title in Dutch, who would have thought (apparently the song is in Afrikaans but at least the title goes both ways)
  21. I'm hoping for the latter. Forcefully avoiding it is just...meh, and meanwhile most tough times do need a bit of humor to get through it.
  22. That's new (for me)...I thought Tim Lips was one of the many decent participants who only had like a tiny chance for a medal if everything went absolutely perfect.
  23. Tim Lips' horse Bayro has died during surgery, aged 14. https://www.horses.nl/eventing/eventing-internationaal/tim-lips-bayro-overleden/
  24. NASCAR Pro Invitational iRacing Series, last week they started at Miami-Homestead, now they're about to start the Texas race
  25. The on-screen graphics were correct (based on what one could actually see in terms of which holds they reached), and even if the hold numbers were maybe not exactly correct, the order of the athlete definitely was. With that, Waller, Galla and Duffy all still had a chance to win the competition when Duffy went onto the wall as last climber of the event. I get that it's damn near impossible to really have a good sense of that when you're just standing there though. I think even Charlie Bosco doesn't bother keeping a little Excel sheet with him like I do when watching combined competitions, with which you can quickly try a few scenarios (especially with only 3-4 climbers left) and see who still has a chance Without a sheet like that, I'd be lost and just wait and see what happens.
