That's the goal
The first plan was to go nearly all-out on the first half of the 5k lap, which is mostly a very long uphill, trying to stay in the front of the wave group (14 athletes) and maybe catch 1-2 athletes in front, then just try and see how much energy there's left for the second part (which has a downhill, tiny barely noticeable uphill, downhill, flat, downhill, flat, finish). At the team captain's meeting they said they won't do the 5k lap however, but two laps on a different, 2.5k course. It's easier, with only the uphill at the beginning, but it also means the plans had to be adjusted a bit
