  1. Within now and a few minutes, Jeffrey Hoogland is going to attack Francois Pervis' 1km world record in Aguascalientes. The goal is to break Pervis' 56.303 seconds. There's a live stream here, not sure it's available outside the Netherlands. https://www.ad.nl/wielrennen/live-bekijk-de-wereldrecordpoging-van-jeffrey-hoogland-vanaf-20-45-uur-exclusief-via-onze-site~acfaf934/ Personally I find it super cool to have a record attempt for this, besides the hour records we're sort of used to, but also it's a bit sad to see this being done in some 'atmosphereless' hall with 5 people present or so By the way, Pervis himself said he thinks Hoogland can break his record by 3 seconds, which would of course be insane. Then again, it's definitely not impossible. When Pervis said his 56.3 seconds, he was usually riding times of around 1 minute on sea level. Hoogland has been consistently going far under that, even going to low 58's...on sea level. Wouldn't be shocked to see a 54.x seconds.
  2. Awesome how this works as a tourism ad for both countries
  3. Australia has withdrawn for the 2034 World Cup and now Saudi Arabia is the only one left, just like FIFA wanted....surprise It's getting so pathetic it's just almost funny
  4. Yep. Depending on who competes of course the list is....long. Roglic, Evenepoel, Pogacar, Van der Poel, Van Aert, Pedersen, Hirschi, Laporte, Madouas, Benoot, Skjelmose, Pidcock, Powless, Healy, Costa, Aranburu, Küng, G Martin, Mohoric, Lutsenko, Sivakov, Ganna, Woods, Skujins, Kron, Matthews, Alaphilippe, Lafay, Yates, Yates all would have at the very least an outside chance (some more than others, obviously, but none of these would really be surprise medalists), and that's just with taking a one minute look at the current rankings and such.
  5. To be fair to Mohoric, he is exactly the kind of rider who barely needs support at all Most of his big wins have come without real support, but by some impressive attack or something like that. If Roglic and Pogacar ride, Slovenia definitely has three medal chances, but like I said before, there's at least 20-30 riders who definitely have a medal chance, so yeah.
  6. Ah yeah, that was fun, timing had shown USA being behind a lap for half the race, and then she and the Korean went like mad in the final lap despite everyone seeing (at least based on the timing) they were really not fighting for anything But who knows, maybe they were in the end
  7. Hard to say. Ben Healy definitely has a serious medal chance given his incredible year and his riding style and such. But it's the road race on hilly terrain, there's always going to be at least 20-30 riders with a somewhat serious medal chance.... (and so individually, every single rider has a rather low percentage by himself, even the top favourites like Van der Poel don't have anywhere near 40% medal chance or something)
  8. A best case scenario? That's going to be fun, if we add all the numbers in this thread together we'll end up with double as many gold medals as actual events, I think But right, I'll take a bit of time as well tomorrow or so because I'm curious how the Netherlands is looking. As far as I can really say anything about most sports other than athletics and the various cycling disciplines
  9. Absolutely, and to the Dagestan part of Russia even more so. But nevertheless, it says quite something about 'people' (as far as these turds can be called anything else than rabid animals) to storm an airport with hundreds and open late 1930's/early 1940's style Jew hunt.
  10. One would say those 10 minutes they took yesterday should be enough to rewatch the entire race on slowmotion and easily count the laps, that should have been step 1...
  11. True, although 5 points in 8 matches is still incredibly pathetic (and incredibly funny considering how a lot of Ajax fans often act and talk ). Ajax relegating would honestly be one of the funniest things I have ever seen in Dutch sports. It's not happening, but boy it'd be hilarious.
  12. Meanwhile in Dagestan, a large group of the local lowlife is showing the emptiness of their lives by acting as if they still live in caves and need to hunt a prey.
  13. PSV beat Ajax 5-2 and now, I kid you not, Ajax is in 18th and last place in the competition They were absolutely destroyed by German Sven Mislintat, who for whatever reason was appointed technical director last summer, used his shady contacts to come up with a lot of very shady deals for unknown players through one of his own companies (20 million for Josip Sutalo of GNK Dinamo, 16 million for Georges Mikautadze of FC Metz, 12.5 million for Gaston Avila of Antwerp, 8 million for Borna Sosa of Stutgart etc...he spent a whopping 92 million for a bunch of players, almost all of whom actually said they never expected to end up at Ajax (duh, nobody did)). When the shady dealings through his company came to light, it didn't take long for Mislintat to be kicked out, but that really was too late and now they've gotten a grand total of 5 points in 8 matches
  14. Mercy rule is for children's sports I'm surprised Slovakia was there, but even more positively surprised that it was actually even mentioned in the media there (no matter how small it is, it's interesting that it's mentioned)
  15. The 12th korfball world championships were played in Taiwan, with all matches played in Taipei I believe. After 11 consecutive - finals - with Belgium taking a legendary world title in 1991 and the Netherlands winning the other 10 - Belgium was actually knocked out in the semi's this time....by Taiwan (which has been the 3rd country for a while already) Today was the final, Netherlands - Taiwan, in which things went back to normal and the Netherlands took an easy win after a bit of a rough start: 27-11. Belgium finished in 3rd after beating 26-11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_IKF_World_Korfball_Championship
  16. At least this kind of weather as reason is slightly less depressing than the 'lack of snow' tragedies we are all causing more and more
  17. Did the fog get worse? I watched the first 30 or so and then went for a bike ride, thinking I'd get back, check the full run 1 results and get ready for run 2....now I see it's been cancelled after Zampa 2 (bib 47).. Edit: very strong wind apparently, with only stronger wind being expected. Yeah, fair enough to cancel it then.
  18. New talent spotted in the German national championships, where world junior silver medalist Claudia Pechstein (ok, that was when there was still a large wall standing in Berlin, but still) took home the gold in the 5k. https://speedskatingresults.com/index.php?p=3&e=27222&r=10006
  19. Thanks, although I don't think club rugby will really get me interested (like in football, where the club competitions just don't really do much for me ).
  20. Not gonna happen, I'm afraid Just like in 2015 and 2019 I'm planning to watch it more often, but....yeah. What's the next big event for nations rugby?
