  1. "Countermeasures" xD How do you guys think about the deal in your country. I feel sad that BBC are losing to Eurosport. It is a shame that their near-perfect coverage will come to an end.
  2. The good thing about this deal is yes you have to pay, but once you pay you get everything online, where as with a local broadcaster you get to watch a small amount, like people have said. So Eurosport is like BBC basically, just that you have to pay a bit.
  3. Could you be sneaky and change your computer's location to UK using VPN or Proxy?
  4. Their election coverage was quite poor as well... interrupting Michéal Martin to go to an advert break after just one question... imagine that on the Beeb with Jeremy Corbyn! Something else I hate is their attempts to be "modern" like putting useless graphics everywhere that mean nothing... holograms and shite like that. Also the pro-Irishness in international matches: "And now it is England 36-20 Ireland, unfortunately" during the Six Nations pissed me off. Lucky you get (almost) all the British channels.
  5. The sad thing is it is like that. Will RTÉ have an online presence, or will they just show one or two events at a time?
  6. So Canoe-slalom is popular in Slovakia, or they get good results? I saw half their medals were in Canoeing during London, and in Beijing all their golds were in Canoeing. It will be better on Eurosport, but you will have to pay, and I don't know if it will be in Slovak or not. You will just have to wait for PyeongChang. The British commentary isn't that good either. Once during rowing, a Slovenian came up. For the whole race, the commentator called him Slovakian, and was like "And here's Smith (placeholder name), the Slovakian" "Doe leads from Michael, and then Smith the Slovakian is third. He's very popular in Bratislava, is Smith" Sometimes, they have a generic commentator like Rob Walker or Sue Barker for lesser-known sports who has a co-commentator who is an expert, (who came 6th in LA 1984 in a Commie sport) but sometimes they just have a generic commentator who only knows basic stuff. The idea is that the commentator explains it to newbies, and the co-commentator is for seasoned watchers, but it doesn't work out that way. Honestly, I wish I could see RTÉ's coverage, just to laugh at it. I bet they would have put shitty graphics everywhere (in the studio, graphiccs are controlled by OBS in races and if you were a fan of e.g. Wrestling, tough luck.) I bet at least, there wasn't a British flag to be seen like they piled everywhere on BBC with Brazil for the World Cup: Brazilian music, flag, beaches, women: everything. Even ITV were at it with the Brazil song. It would be funny to see someone who looks like he remembers the Easter Rising into saying stuff like "and as we the riders pass Buckingham Palace, one of the beautiful buildings which shows the amazing history of this wonderful nation, which was what the BBC were like anyway."
  7. Well, you are lucky to have been beaten by Dublin at a stage no-one cares about. As for Michael and Danny, what awful culchies bolloxes they are. Back on the Olympics, what are RTÉ like for that? Awful I expect. At least you don't get TV3 or (the horror) TG4. Still better than Sky Sports 3's GAA coverage, I guess. (Also, did any Anti-Britishness creep in during 2012?)
  8. I'm not from Kerry, but I have family there. It's an excuse to support a good team in GAA, whereas London, not so much. Going to Ruislip is fun. So is laughing at Michael Healy-Rae. What county are you from? Donegal?
  9. Well, at least you don't have to play €100 to watch GAA games. In Irish. Or with Pat Spillane. Or on Setanta. Or with deferred coverage. Then to watch your team get battered by Dublin in the final, which I think is on the 25th? At least London did well in the hurling.
  10. The time in Tokyo is a bit concerning actually. Rio 2016's first event (Women's Football. BRA VS ?) starts at 13:00 local. If Tokyo started at 13:00 local, that would be 5:00 Britannia. (It is +9 all year round, we are 0 in Winter but +1 Summer) 5am is a bit crap.
  11. Everyone loves Radio Telifís Eireann. But for Irish users it will be Eurosport-only cum PyeongChang, but I know Sky Ireland give BBC One NI and BBC Two NI for free, how they run that past the Dáil and co. nobody knows. If you are near the border with the UK (the land border, not the maritime border, obviously) then your computer might think it is in NI if you're lucky. Which county are you in? You could always get a VPN as well...
  12. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/apr/07/bbc-staff-rio-2016-olympics-2012-games-nbc I found the answer, and it's good news So although there is no BBC Olympics channel, everything is online. That is good news. Very good news. From PyeongChang onwards however, everything will still be there, but on Discovery/Eurosport. Which is good enough, I guess. Also, nice profile pic. xD
  13. In UK law there are 'Protected events' that have to be on free to air live (but PPV can share), which are Olympics and Paralympics (summer and winter), World Cup Finals, UEFA Euro Finals, FA Cup Final, Scottish Cup Final (Scotland only), Grand National, Epsom Derby, Rugby League Challenge Cup final, Rugby World Cup Final, and there are also 'Category B' which must have highlights or delayed broadcast on free to air, which is IAAF and IPC World Athletics Championships, Ryder Cup, The Open golf, Test matches in cricket envolving England, Cricket World cup final, semi-finals, and home nations matches, Rugby World Cup matches (not the final) Six Nations matches involving the home nations, Wimbledon (not the finals), and Commonwealth games. I find a way, don't worry, even if it takes me months I manage to watch them.
  14. Looks like I'm lucky to be British in this regard. BBC showed absolutely everything, with few exceptions, (non ticketed events, like Archery and Shooting preliminary rounds)
  15. Well, just trying to help. Here's a question. If you were broadcaster, and had exclusive rights, what and how would you broadcast it if you were in charge? For me, I would just emulate the BBC's 2012 coverage. All events can be watched live and on demand on telly or on internet, with the BBC Olympic Channels and online there are graphics showing stats and on-demand you can press a button for moments, e.g. a goal in football. Hopefully it will be as good. Also, how will SBS transmit to North Korea? Presumably they will sell it to KCNA?
  16. By the way, Discovery = Eurosport, if you guys didn't know.
  17. What's that? You want to know how to watch the Olympics? Well why didn't you say so? Note: These are subject to change, and to be brought and sold by broadcasters. 19. I like Curling and Ice hockey because they're the only sports that aren't a race xD Also, I like Skeleton because TeamGB are good at it.
  20. Lots of love for Swimming and Athletics. I prefer team sports though, like Football, Rugby sevens, and handball.
  21. While the 2022 European Shotgun Championships continue in Larnaca, Cyprus, another blue ribbon shooting event with places in Paris up for grabs is taking place in a very different European city. Wrocław is the capital of Poland's southwestern Lower Silesian Voivodeship, with about 650,000 people calling it home. The city will be hosting the 2022 European 25m/50m Shooting Championships, with places at the 2024 Olympic Games on the line. Hosted at the shooting range of Polish top-flight football club Śląsk Wrocław, which also has top-tier teams in women's football and handball as well as being the reigning Polish basketball champion. The top two places (with the stipulation that the same country can't win both places) in four events will earn a spot for their country at the 2024 Olympics: the 50m Rifle 3 Positions for both genders, the Men's Rapid Fire Pistol and the Women's 25m Pistol. The first week of competition will be dedicated to junior competitions which do not earn quota places, but preliminary competition for the Olympic events starts on 12 September for all events apart from the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions, which starts on 13 September. On 14 September, the finals will take place: firstly the Women's 25m Pistol at 11:00 local time, before the Men's Rapid Fire Pistol at 17:00 and the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions at 19:00. The Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final will take place on 15 September at 17:00. It is too early for a start list, but there is guaranteed to be a range of talent on show. At Tokyo 2020, out of the twelve medallists in these events, seven were European, although four of these were Russian and will not be competing. The other three Europeans to medal in these events were Men's Rapid Fire Pistol champion Jean Quiquampoix of France, Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions bronze medallist Milenko Sebić of Serbia, and champion in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event Nina Christen of Switzerland. While finding information on participation is not the easiest, the Swiss federation has confirmed that Christen will compete, so we will see at least one Olympic champion. This event has a different priority than it did in the Tokyo cycle, coming first in the schedule for shooters in this event. In the Tokyo Games, it was somewhere in the middle of the calendar. The Czech Republic and Italy got a place in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions thanks to Petr Nymburský and Lorenzo Bacci, while in the Women's event it was Belarus' Maria Martynova and Denmark's Stine Nielsen. In the Men's Rapid Fire Pistol Italy's Riccardo Mazzetti and Azerbaijan's Ruslan Lunev earned a spot, while in the Women's 25m Pistol both places went to France thanks to Mathilde Lamolle and Celine Goberville, something that would be impossible this time around.
