After some googling, I find out that Kazakhstan actually never lost match in the qualifying for the 2002 WC (4-2-0), and yet they didn't make the final round because of the weird rules. It's understandable why they got angry at AFC, but to change to a confederation where you have zero opportunities and no prospects seems like a bit of overreaction. P.s. Why doesn't Algeria just change to CONCACAF then?
