Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
MHSN replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
96kg ranking - Tian - 4481 1. El-Bakh - 4217 2. Rivas - 4034 (COL with 3 doping cases) 3. Pliesnoi - 3919 4. Santavy - 3768 - Mkrtchyan - 3750 (NOC is limited to 1) 5. Yu - 3631 6. Yamamoto - 3503 7. Vallenilla - 3466 - Jang - 3438 (2nd KOR) 8 Saez - 3368 - Tsikhantsou - 3357 (no) (NOC is limited to 1) 9. Rasulbekov - 3226 - Shoraj - 3189 (NOC is limited to 2) (needs 1 more result at 96) 10. Moradi - 3090 11. Iakovidis - 3073 12. Chen - 3066 13. Veli - 3039 - Gregorio - 3034 (2nd BRA) 14. Opeloge - 3010 (Oceania) according to our Chinese friend, Tiao is not going to be selected for China, but that's not a sure thing, injures are always possible. == -
after what happened at 102kg, now Moradi needs 388kg total in Colombia to qualify. but still that Taiwanese guy can also participate and add something like 200pts to his points. if he doesn't, 388 will be enough. still that won't be easy to travel half the world and lift such a big weight. finally we had a positive surprise for the Iranian team, Rasoul Motamedi surprised everyone by lifting 400kg in total and beat Fares Ibrahim El-Bakh for the gold at 102kg. I know it's a non-Olympic weight but still that was a great performance. that's an unofficial world record in this weight.
-
the quota is for the athlete, not the NOC. that's very obvious. the whole idea of competing in 6 events in a period of 2 years. having multiple doping tests etc is to the check the Olympic athlete to make sure 2012 disaster doesn't happen. what's the point of all these things if NOCs can replace their athletes ?
-
of course I remember that. yes with 387kg in Colombia he will surpass the Kyrgyz guy but only if he doesn't improve his ranking points. and there is a guy from TPE who bombed out today, he could improve his score massively with a mediocre result today. he still can do that in Colombia (and makes it an uphill task for Moradi) but I'm not sure if he even registered for that event. our Kyrgyz friend will participate tomorrow at 102kg. we will see if he can improve his result or not.
-
it seems Moradi still has a chance, I will write more in details when I calculate the whole 96kg ranking (will do that tomorrow, since some athletes will participate at 102kg) but if the others don't improve their ranking points, he still can make it to Tokyo by lifting 387kg in Colombia. I know Iran registered him (and Rostami) already. what a pity he could lift 394 here, but missed 220kg. it won't be easy for him to travel half the world and lift 387kg in such a short time but still his chance is alive. both Moradi and Tian should be in Tokyo but these crazy rules may prevent both of them from participating.
-
nah, Moradi won't qualify for the Olympcis with this record. that was really disappointing. he lifted 220 twice but missed it in the last seconds. apparently he reached 415 a month ago but then injured his back again and didn't train properly in last 4 weeks. he will participate in the last event in Colombia but I don't think he can make it. congrats IWF, the world record holder won't qualify for the Olympics just because he was injured 2 years ago ! and someone with poor results like 350 and 360 will qualify. the Cuban guy will qualify with his mediocre 89kg results. he never lifted anything at 96kg.

Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
MHSN replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
81kg ranking I didn't calculate the points for top 4-5 since they are obviously safe 1. Lyu or Li 2. Rodallegas (COL with 3 doping cases) 3. Bonnat 4. Pizzolato 5. Rejepov - 3809 6. Maurus - 3729 7. Suharevs - 3724 8. Muller - 3690 9. Mata - 3665 - Beytula - 3605 (NOC is limited to 2) 10. Qerimaj - 3555 (NOC is limited to 2) 11. Mendez - 3496 - Saez - 3368 (needs one more event at 81kg, also eligible for 96kg) - Toshtemirov - 3318 (NOC is limited to 2) 12. Zwarycz - 3107 I had hard time to find the next best Asian Weightlifter, the next guys are from UZB, KAZ, IRI, IRQ and none of them are going to use this quota, IND didn't send Ajay Singh here. he just had to participate to qualify !!!! Won of KOR can take it but he is a 73kg weightlifter and I think KOR will have 4 weightlifters much better in other weights. Kasai of JPN who bombed out in Asia still needs one more event to complete his 6 events. so right now nobody from Asia is eligible for that continental quota ! == ??? -
it seems everybody had to beg Rostami to lower his CJ attempt and at least win the gold here. he did that but he was very angry/disappointed at the end. he said something in Persian and English to the camera, I didn't understand what the hell he means but he was upset about something this is probably the end of the road for him. that was a STUPID idea to cut weight for 89kg in such a short time. I don't know who told him he can lift 395kg after cutting that amount of weight . that was completely out of his range. he is/was a great weightlifter, Olympic Champion, World Champion etc. but he deserved to finish low like this. it was all his mistakes. he (alongside Salimi) arranged that "coup" in 2013 to fire our successful coach at the time and that's the main reason why we are in such a bad situation in this sport. one thing about Rostami , he is a Kurd minority, and he always plays that card, "you don't like me because I'm Kurd" what the hell. he was popular until he ruined it himself.
-
Rostami lowered his opening weight to not bomb out this time, made 167kg but failed twice at 176kg . his chance to qualify for the Olympics is lower than ever. now he needs something like 228kg in CJ ! and he still doesn't talk to the coaches ! he does everything himself. what a jerk even from his reactions he is easily hateable !
-
The great/stupid Kianoush Rostami is going to start with 175+220 ! his start weight is 8kg higher than the total world record of course he still has time to decrease the weight but if he doesn't, prepare yourself for another bomb out.

73kg ranking 1. Shi - 5015 2. Cummings - 4185 3. Andreev - 4173 (NOC is limited to 2) 4. Mayora - 4076 5. Calja - 3984 (NOC is limited to 2) - O - 3958 (no) 6. Miyamoto - 3807 7. Ben Hnia - 3801 (Africa) 8. Sanchez - 3624 9. Robu - 3580 (NOC is limited to 2) - Petrov - 3562 (5 events) (NOC is limited to 1) 10. Lang - 3551 (also eligible for 81kg) - Yokubov - 3536 (no) 11. Abdullah - 3532 12. Meredov - 3354 13. Ismayilov - 3011 (NOC is limited to 2) 14. Won - 3001 15. Cardenas - 2940 - Sandoval - 2803 (no) (COL with 3 doping cases) * Won of KOR can still easily make it to top 8 if he participates in Colombia. (if he registered already) he bombed out in Asia * European Champion Ismayilov is in trouble because he bombed out in his first period tries. he still has a slim chance to qualify as the best European Weightlifters if few things happen in his favor. * BUL has max 2 quotas (in edge of being limited to 1 with 19 cases) and has 3 decent weightlifters at 61, 73 and 109, I have no idea how they are going to select these 2. but for now I assume Andreev is one of them. == ? If TUN stays in top 8, which I believe he will. the next best African in the list is from Morocco, but he participated in only 4 events and "needs" to participate in 1 more (beside African Champs) to become eligible. not sure if guys in Morocco knew this and registed him for Colombia. there is no other guy from Africa in the ranking with more than 2 or 3 events. very possible this quota gets re-allocated . don't know how they are going to do that ! -
so Russia finished the freestyle competition with 6 golds and 2 silver. and I have to say they didn't bring 5 of their best wrestlers. (the same goes for some other countries too) interestingly the other 4 gold medals went to Turkey and guess who ? Slovakia ! 2 for each Taha Akgul won the 125kg gold medal in his comeback, he looked good but his final was ugly with the Russian kid receiving so many cautions and finally got disqualified with just 1 second to go if we had a MVP award I believe Salkazanov deserved it. 74kg was in a very high level and he went through a very tough bracket. that was the worst possible draw. Chamizo beat Zhamalov for the bronze. Zhamalov was winning the Russian nationals but lost it to the World Champion Sidakov in the last seconds he was leading 2-1 and he thought even a 2-2 will be enough for him and gave up a pushout point easily. he was an inch away from winning the Russian nationals and make the Olympic team. he had to win gold in a dominant way to stand a slim chance for a wrestle-off with Sidakov but now I'm quite sure he is out of the picture.

Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
MHSN replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
hmm, not much, she didn't medal in the Pan-American Champs as well and if we consider the PBs, there are 3-4 girls way ahead of her. and then 4-5 more in the same level of her. so I say the chance is slim but not completely impossible. weird things happen sometimes. weightlifters make dumb mistakes and bomb out. but she needs to lift "at least" something around 190kg (10kg better than her PB) to stand a chance. -
Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
MHSN replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
my calculations about women's 49kg to make things easier for myself I only counted points for athletes who may qualify for the Olympics. I may miss someone so let me know if see someone important missing 1. Hou - 4926 - Ri - 4209 (no) 2. Mirabai - 4133 3. Delacruz - 3640 4. Aisah - 3230 ?. Segura - 3121 (no) (COL with 3 doping cases) ?. Sobol - 3031 (NOC is limited to 1) - Andries - 2955 (ROU with 3 doping cases) - Vuong - 2908 (VIE with 3 doping cases) 5. Rosa - 2798 6. Michel - 2774 7. Erdogan - 2765 (NOC is limited to 2) 8. Montero - 2713 9. Toua - 2603 (Oceania) 10. Fang - 2596 - Piron - 2562 (no) 11. Braddouck - 2450 12. Ranaivosoa - 2332 (Africa) 13. Cueva - 2321 - Russo - 2254 (no) 14. Jumabayeva - 2244 15. Imperio - 2227 16. Miyake - 2210 important notes: * China has to pick 4 from 6 weights, they are "almost" guaranteed gold in any of the events they want, so it's just up to them * Segura of Colombia surprisingly didn't participate in the Pan-Ams, she still can make it by just participating in the last event in her own country * I didn't check other weights but I just can't believe Russia uses it's only quota in the lowest weight * Vietnam and Romania are close to get banned from the Olympics. I think Romania has no chance but still a slim chance for Vietnam to survive. * Toua from PNG can easily make it to top 8 by a good result in her last event and let Oceania qualify another one. but there is nobody else from Oceania in the ranking !!!! I'm a bit lazy to check to see what happens in they have to re-allocate the continental quotas. * Piron of DOM can easily make it to top 8 by a mediocre result but she didn't even participate in the Pan-Ams, she still can do that in Colombia. == -
the only huge sport in Iran is football and nothing else ! but wrestling has its own group of hardcore fans. and usually have its own media attention throughout the year. but that's not the same for Weightlifting. most people notice this sport exists only during the Olympics or other major events. and unfortunately the sport isn't even developed here. we just have a small group of good weightlifters. it's not even like Taekwondo or Karate with a big community. btw I think you didn't notice my post here. that's important for Brazil
-
then I hope Tian disappoints you guys it's not like I'm afraid of his competition with Moradi/Rostami. the thing is our guys probably need China's non-participation in this weight to even qualify. thanks to "not knowing the rules in advance" if I was the China's coach I would pick other 4 weights, first because 96kg is more competitive (with that Qatari guy as well) and second Tian himself is quite unpredictable. but of course I'm not in that place to decide and I'm quite biased here. Tian looks like a very nice guy though. wish him the best of luck (except on Friday )

I didn't get into details for the African weightlifters, but from the first look I can say both of them are 99% qualified. they just have to participate in their own continental qualifier. just participation will be enough. and I think they will participate since Madagascar is hosting the African Champs -
Li Dayin bombed out (and looked a bit injured) Lyu Xiaojun failed to break the CJ and Total WRs 1. 2. 3. I guess Lyu also secured his place in Tokyo. even though nothing is guaranteed. he is 36!
-
Chinese weightlifters broke the snatch WR twice ! 174 and 175. but it was a bad day for Iran, our young guy Soltani injured his elbow very badly that could win him a bronze medal in snatch (and probably a total medal) but he injured himself and that was one of those career-ending injuries. he is already in the hospital

Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
MHSN replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
if you read the post below yourself @LowerSaxony has a different way to read the rules. but assuming I was correct (which I'm not sure anymore) that's true yes. Jeremy qualifies only if the Korean gets into the top 8 OR South Korea simply doesn't pick him. I think at the end of the qualification South Korea will have more than 4 male weightlifters eligible to qualify. -

@Illya and @Benolympique I will calculate each weight at the end of the Asian and Pan American Championships in that specific weight. but my priority is the men's weightlifting. but I will get into women's whenever I have some extra time. maybe tonight or tomorrow but I will do that for sure. -

Oh well you made me think twice. this is how they write the rules, I think it means not represented in that specific weight, not all 7 weights. but maybe you are right. but they didn't mention such a thing anywhere else in the qualification document. oof it was already tooooo complicated, now it just gets worse -
Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

I don't think he can qualify, he bombed out in both of his competitions in the first window. which means one of his 4 results will be a ZERO. even though he collected big points in other windows but I don't think that's enough. but we will know better when I calculate the 73kg ranking tomorrow after the end of the Pan-Am Champs
