  1. Disappointing first day for Iran with only 2 bronze medals, Emami at 60kg could win the gold medal he lost narrowly to the gold medalist btw this American kid "Hall" at 74 is amazing, I expect to win few World/Olympic medals very soon.
  2. that was like a silver medal festival for Iran with 2 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze ! that was great winning 11 medals while we had only 13 athletes in official sports !! only 2 of them failed to win medal. still that was a bit disappointing losing back to back finals. some of these sports (Karate, Sport Climbing, Jujitsu and Compound Archery) will be in the 2018 Asian Games next year, that was important to see where we stand in those non-Olympic sports. I enjoyed watching few sports at the World Games , nice competition and thanks Poland for being always a great host
  3. Asian Champs quarterfinal South Korea vs China Chinese Taipei vs Kazakhstan Iran vs Indonesia Japan vs Australia before the tournament I was sure that Korea, China, Japan and Australia will make it to the semifinal but now two of them will be eliminated tomorrow ! TPE surprised everybody by beating both China and Australia, but that was also very surprising that Iran U23 beat Australian A team today ! If Iran make it to the semifinal that would be a GREAT result for this team, they will be favorite against the host team Indonesia.
  4. Today Iran won its first ever medal in a ICF World Championship , Mohammad Nabi Rezaei won bronze in C1 1000m juniors. Always nice to win world medal in a new sport.
  5. Japan finished 10th in men's Water polo, from what i see this is the best rank ever for an Asian team in men's world championship. even though there is still a big big gap but looks like Japan (and even Kazakhstan) are improving.
  6. not a big surprise, Indonesia had been in Asia top 8 before and they are the host this time.even though I was expecting them to eliminate Kazakhstan not Qatar. I'm very surprised by Iran's results so far winning 3 matches in straight sets. because thanks to our stupid federation this is not our A team but U23 team.! it will be great if they can make it to the semifinal which is still unlikely.
  7. despite being 5 out of 5 in the finals, Iranians managed to win only 1 gold medal ! Poursheib (who had the least chance for gold) finally beat his archrival Araga ! the others mostly lost their lead near the end of the match and of course as usual there were some dubious calls. specially when you are up against Japan so far 2 gold and 4 silver from 6 athletes, few more left in Muaythai, Jujitsu, Snooker and Archery.
  8. All of our 4 Karatekas today advanced to the final ! (3 of them against Japan !) which means out of 6 athletes we had in World Games so far all 6 of them finished or will finish on the podium. most importantly they all win medals in future Olympic sports, Sport Climbing and Karate. we had Asian Champs in Karate only few days ago and our athletes were supposed to be tired here while Japan rested all World Games participants in Asian Champs. it's funny that 3 of these guys Poursheib, Asiabari and Abbasasli didn't even make the Asian team ! (they were still there for the team kumitee event) for whatever reason our Karatekas usually perform better outside of Asia. even though I still have my own view about Karate but there are only few sports that Iran can win medals in world class tournaments and Karate is one of them. having 5 finalists out of 5 athletes is a very good result (Mehdizadeh won silver yesterday)
  9. I'm not a big fan of Taekwondo (following it only because it gives us medals , same as Karate) but at least in Taekwondo it's clear that you have to kick your opponent and kick hard. but despite following Karate for year, I still had hard time to understand the rules and why this technique should be scored and that one should not ! (and changing rules consistently doesn't help at all) there are few serious problems with Karate first the officiating, then the time of the fight, fights should be longer, seriously only 2 minutes for women ?! and no extra time, at least this new rule (who scores the first point wins the match in case of tie) is better than Hantei. it looks like they just want to finish the whole thing as soon as possible, I don't see any problem with 1 minute of extra time !
  10. well I watched all Karate finals and seriously this sport has no place in the Olympics. specially Kata
  11. Mostly nonsense . asking him to clap hands, then something like go on its head, then no don't go,the whale will go down. and btw this is not completely Persian but some kind of a local language I couldn't understand almost half of it,
  12. That was close, once again. even Belarus almost beat Hungary which could make the life easier for Iran but Hungary survived two close matches. I think our coach made a mistake in order of the players, Abedini should always play the last match. even though I can't complain about coach Peyman, he built this team from nothing all by himself OK we are done with this World Championship, we need more luck next time.
  13. no surprise as this is the first time Iran is sending a half decent delegation . (not really a delegation with less than 20 athletes) and still nobody knows about World Games here (except me probably ) our Karate federation claims they are sending 5 athletes to the "World Indoor Karate Championships !!"
  14. First ever World Games gold medal for Iran Alipour was lucky in both SF and final since his opponents made false start, but he still has the fastest time of the day. 5.57. and he is the world record holder. you can't say he didn't deserve the gold.
  15. Any livestream for Sport Climbing Speed finals ?
  16. no medal today maybe another day. well done Pakdaman, he wasn't expected to go this far. we were counting on Abedini. hope for better results in Team event on Monday.
  17. specially the Iranians, now I'm more worry about him than Anstett ! better to lose in QF than withdrawing/disqualifying in SF
  18. Pakdaman in quarterfinal, now one more match to win a historical medal. PS: This is already Iran's best ever result in a World Fencing Champs in individual events (we had a 4th place finish in team event last year)
  19. Happy for Pakdaman who had a great comeback vs Yakimenko, but really sad for Abedini, he lost a 14-12 lead. I was hoping for a medal today but it looks unlikely now with Abedini out. it's still a long shot for Pakdaman.
  20. I see all of our five 2016 World medalists in the start list so I assume that tournament was the main (or maybe the only) qualifier.
  21. Does it mean you think Canada is not qualified yet ? because that's wrong, that 3-0 win secured a SF place for Canada. , Canada's set ratio is bigger than 1, if Russia beats Brazil 3-0 (which is almost impossible) they will be qualified alongside Canada, otherwise Brazil and Canada will be in semifinal.
  22. Father can coach his own daughter outside the national camp, not the whole team
  23. no that's not possible specially in contact sports like this. in Iran men's team and women's team always train separately with two different coach/program/etc. I know in some sports like Rowing, Canoeing , Shooting and etc they use male coaches for the women's team but in other sports they usually use male coaches as some kind of advisor since our female coaches are usually not that experienced. women's sport is pretty new in Iran, it will take years to train and teach female coaches. actually this is hard to find good female coaches around the world ! it was always hard for the Iranian federations to find a qualify female coach, most countries use men for their women's teams ! btw that woman is also Kimia's childhood coach. they are very connected.
  24. actually yes and no, they did nothing wrong to him, he left because of strong competition at home, back in 2015 Mehdi Khodabakhshi was dominating the world in this weight, Beigi once beat him in a league match and that drew attention of Azeri scouts ! but he lost the national trials to Khodabakhshi in a close match and missed his chance, Khodabakhshi went to win the world title dominating the competition. of course who can blame the federation for not picking Beigi over the world #1 ?! he was considered a great talent, he could make the national team the next year but he didn't want to wait a year or something, I only blame our federation/coach for not trying him at 87kg, changing weight is not a big deal in this sport (unlike Judo and Wrestling for example) I'm OK with someone like Asemani , she is living in Belgium, this is her right. (even though I was happy when our girl kicked her out of the competition here) but Beigi is still living in Iran, he is just competing for them , few more other Iranians joined him in Azerbaijan team, they won several medals for that country but I don't care about them , because nobody wanted them in Iran. but that's not the case for Beigi, he raised in Iran, in Iran taekwondo school, he still has Iranian coaches there, he was sponsored by the Iran TKD federation reaching this place and now he is winning those medals (he should win for Iran) for another country. and actually he beat our gold medal hope in Rio eliminating him, (the same guy Khodabakhshi) yeah Iran don't pay as much as Azerbaijan but there are other side benefits when you win medal for your own country.
  25. well, Beigi is the best taekwondo athlete in the world right now, he just destroyed Aaron Cook and then Kotkov. He is a great athlete but a traitor. equal to 2007, this was our worst result in past 20 years without a single gold medal, time to change the whole system, obviously there is something wrong here. Kimia was extremely defensive today, she was just a shadow of herself (as I said before she was injured and out of training since Rio) still she somehow managed to win a silver medal. Gbagbi scouted her well and came to the final with the right plan, pushing, pushing and making her tired which worked perfectly and that was an easy gold medal for her
