  1. 2/3 Greeks through to women's pole vault final. Really hope we can win a medal but will be tough...
  2. Yes, I agree. I knew it would be tough to win gold but really didn't expect him to win less than silver. I also thought his performance was very good and was surprised with the 15.200. Anyways a medal is still good and I guess there's not much difference between silver and bronze for him. After everything he went through and almost didn't qualify for Tokyo, we should not complain.
  3. Well... 1. So far we have 3 men's medals and 0 women's medals. I think it's not possible for the women to catch up to the men at this point. We might not even have any women's medals for the first time since 1988... 2. He did win gold!
  4. Only bronze for Petrounias Didn't think it was possible for him to get worse than silver... I guess @thiago_simoes will be happy about this...
  5. I am not either. We look good this year, however, we always choke and underachieve. We never win in quarterfinals so I would not be surprised if we lose...
  6. Do you ever have anything nice to say about anyone, ever? Serious question. Also Tentoglou not only had WL but before the 6th jump, this was his worst competition of the entire season and even that shows how good he is to have been 5th at that point. Yes it wasn't such a strong final and some others were injured, but also 8.41 is the longest jump in an Olympic final since 2004, and here we had not one but TWO medalists jump 8.41m. Also prior to Tokyo, Tentoglou had the two biggest jumps in the world this year (8.60 and 8.48). So if you consider this to be a "very sad result" then what do you think about the men's long jump finals in Beijing, London, Rio? 8.41 there would've won gold too.
  7. I know in Athens 2004, Fani Halkia broke OR in 400m hurdles semifinal
  8. So sad for Djokovic And of course for Stojanovic as well...
  9. I'm not sure, Italy could've possibly finished first in the group if they won against Hungary (as I'm sure they didn't expect us to beat USA by such a big margin) and then played against Montenegro in the quarterfinals. Instead, we will be the ones to face MNE.
  10. Well I hope this can inspire Gkolomeev to win his first Olympic medal in 2024 as a 31 year old! He said after getting 5th yesterday in the same event where Fratus got bronze, that his goal is now 2024.
  11. Looks like no medals for Greece in sailing. Quite disappointing to only win one bronze in this sport the last three Olympics as it is historically one of our best sports
  12. Same exact situation for Greek race walker Alexandros Papamichail
  13. Now she joined the rest of the team in Tokyo after two negative tests
  14. ^After two negative tests, Evangelia Platanioti has just arrived in Tokyo yesterday and will be competing in the duet event
  15. I agree 100% It was slightly better in 2016:
  16. 6th place in both events for Korakaki And I agree with what everyone said. The coverage was absolutely horrendous. I had no idea what was going on until the end of each series when they showed the leaderboard. In 2016 I only caught the end (Korakaki vs. Karsch) and it was way better
  17. I saw the Swedish flag next to the Greek name "Apostolos" and for a second thought it was some Greek representing Sweden Then I quickly realized it's the guy from Cyprus
  18. I'm sorry but I think you are quite misinformed. He has been improving year by year. Won his first medal at the 2015 World U23s as a junior, then in 2016 got 6th in Rio in LM4- as a 19 year old. He won several medals at the World and European U23 Championships post-Rio but in different boats because his partners kept quitting the sport despite their success. So after the 2019 European Championships he decided to switch to the single scull and not deal with unreliable partners. In his first event he won silver at the World U23 Championships, then 11 at the World Championships which was not enough to qualify for Rio (in my opinion the competition was stronger there than it was in Rio). Then last year he got 5th at the European Championships and 4th this year (he just missed a medal in the last 10-20 m and he was obviously tired because he has the European Olympic Qualifying regatta a few days before). Beat Zeidler by 14 seconds in earlier this year in a heat (I think it was the European Championships or maybe the World Cup event). It was pretty clear that he improved a lot in the past few years both as he got older and stronger (and switched from lightweight category) and as he spent more time working on the single sculls since he was still new to it in 2019. So I would not say he was "completely irrelevant all of his career" when he was clearly a talented young rower. How many teenagers have made A Finals in recent Olympics besides the three Greeks who did it in Rio LM4- and W2X?
  19. I agree, it's been a problem for many of our rowers. Most are super young compared to other nations, go to the Olympics once and then are never seen from again. It's a cyclical problem and hopefully this will bring more attention and money to the sport, or at least to Ntouskos so we can see him in Paris and beyond.
  20. Defending Olympic champion Anna Korakaki in the final, hope she can win a medal after getting 6th in the 10m.
  21. Yes, I wouldn't want them winning medals either especially Tomljanovic because her 'connections' are so fake. They can win WTA tour events and I don't care, but not the Olympics. Although I think Konta did live in the UK for several years growing up so I'll give her a pass.
  22. Also we've had other rowers in recent years when their semifinals but flop in the final. Asoumanaki/Nikolaidou in W2X in 2016 won their semifinal and got 4th in the final, Bourmpou/Kyridou here in W2- won their semifinal and got 5th in the final. So good to see someone win their semifinal and still win a medal (and gold!)
