  1. He definitely benefited a lot from the postponement of the Games. However this year he was very good, finished 4th at the European Championships where he was in a medal position for the first 1990m and lost it right at the end, plus two of the three medalists from there didn't make it to the A Final here
  2. FIRST EVER GOLD MEDAL FOR GREECE IN ROWING AND FIRST EVER MEDAL IN A NON-LIGHTWEIGHT EVENT! So proud of Stefanos and he's only 24 and was only competing in the single sculls for two years. He was thinking of retiring after Tokyo, surely this result will change his life and attract sponsors to allow him to continue the sport. I am so proud of him! I knew he could win a medal here and believed for months that he could, but wow, gold! Amazing!
  3. Sorry but I will be very annoyed if Rybakina wins bronze over Svitolina. I hate when countries like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey buy athletes and then win medals. I think it is totally against the Olympic spirit if you don't have connections to a country other than money.
  4. I feel very tired all the time because I am not sleeping much at night because of the Olympics, I can't wait for the weekend to come because I will be able to catch up on sleep during the days. It's really tiring especially because I was working this week. Also I am not working next week so I will enjoy my holidays and Olympic break.
  5. It's interesting because one could've expected her to win a medal in mixed doubles with Federer or in women's doubles with either Hingis or Bacsinszky (who won silver together in Rio and both retired since then)
  6. No tennis medal for Greece Pretty disappointing. I think some Greek fans had expectations that were way too high (expecting 3 tennis medals), but I thought we could've gotten 1. Oh well... Happy for Djokovic that he's in two semifinals. I hope he wins gold in singles and another medal in mixed doubles!
  7. Some really crazy results in this regatta. Wow. I think it's a combination of the conditions and also the fact that the Olympic regatta takes place over a week, while everything else since the 2019 World Championships (European Championships and World Cups) take place within 2-3 days. My recap for crews today: Women's pair: I am so proud of Christina and Maria for their 5th place finish. That's really remarkable for them both at just 20 years old (I know people are probably tired of me mentioning in every post how young they are ) I really hope this will keep them together. I know Maria wanted to row with her sister in the pair but if it's not broken then why fix it?! Christina and Maria have accomplished so much over the last three years and have a bright future ahead. My only concern is that they are both going to do NCAA rowing in the US and I hope that it is the right decision for their development. I have my doubts. Also in Rio Greece had three 19-20 year olds all make A Finals and only one is still rowing, one stopped right after Rio and the other got 4th in W2X as a 19 yo and then went to NCAA rowing but hasn't competed with the national team since 2018. I hope they will be in Paris and not fall into the trap of leaving the national team at a young age. Women's single sculls: Seeing Anneta finish 6th in the semifinal was disappointing, though I didn't expect her to make Final A because she hasn't been at her best here. Still at 22 to make the semifinals of the single sculls is good, especially since one year ago she was training for the lightweight double still. She will go back to NCAA rowing and I think she will graduate before Paris and hope to see her there too. Men's single sculls: I've been saying since before the Olympics that I think Ntouskos had a good chance to win a medal and today proved it, finishing first in the semifinals. The final will be tough but with no Zeidler one would think it's slightly easier. He was sixth in Rio in the lightweight four, now in the single sculls which he only started in the middle of the 2019 racing season. Winning a medal would be huge. This might be the last race of his career even though he's only 24 (he said in several interviews that he is thinking to quit rowing after Tokyo because he is in medical school and took a break for training and wants to resume). I really hope this good performance in Tokyo (no matter what the final result is) can encourage him to stick around until Paris at least. Or maybe if he wins a medal it will attract more attention/sponsors for him.
  8. I posted in the artistic swimming topic, but Evangelia Platanioti from Greece tested positive and Greece withdrew from the duet because of her positive covid test. Greece will still compete in the team event though, using the alternate athlete.
  9. WHAT A DREAM! 20 YEARS OLD BOTH OF THEM, AND INTO THE FINAL OF SUCH A TOUGH EVENT WITH A WORLD BEST TIME!
  10. Some crazy results today with this weather, hoping maybe our young girls in the women's pair can surprise. They're in lane 6 though...
  11. Congratulations to all of our Polish friends here! I was cheering for Poland in many races today
  12. You are allowed to replace rowers last minute after the regatta already started?
  13. Greece got 4th in W2X in 2016 and Lithuania got 3rd, so I guess sometimes you get bronze and sometimes 4th. It happens
  14. Great work, thanks for this. It is quite interesting. As for Greece, I think we didn't have many medal chances yet, and many will come over the weekend and Monday with gymnastics (Petrounias) tennis (Tsitsipas and mixed doubles), sailing (a few of them), men's long jump (Tentoglou), men's rowing single sculls (Ntouskos), women's 25 pistol shooting (Korakaki), and men's 50 freestyle (Gkolomeev). So hopefully some of those will win medals.
  15. I won't get into it because you probably don't know any better but but that's wildly inaccurate in so many ways...
  16. What an embarrassing choke from Greece. We led Italy 6-2 after the third period and the match ended in a draw 6-6. Obviously still a good result but never should've drawn from that position...
  17. "Be careful what you wish for" Congrats to your Elina...
  18. http://sportsfeed.gr/meion-ena-melos-i-elliniki-apostoli/ Sad news. The Greek team got tested before traveling to Tokyo. Unfortunately one of the duet girls tested positive for covid and will not be going to Tokyo with the rest of the girls. They didn't say yet who it is, so it's either Evangelia Papazoglou or Evangelia Platanioti (I guess we will find out eventually). I feel so sad. Also it says that the reserve athlete will take her spot in the team event, but that Greece will not be competing in the duet. I do not know if that was Greece's decision or the IOC/FINA's rules. EDIT-According to Wikipedia it is Evangelia Platanioti. And Papazoglou posted an Instagram story at the airport which confirms it's Platanioti. At least Platanioti got to go to London and Rio but this is still sad.
  19. Yes it was raining but now the rain stopped and matches on other courts are starting soon
  20. He made mistakes that he wasn't making earlier on. Actually lost 12 in a row because he quickly went down 0-3 in the next set. He then saved a match point in the 7th set and had another two of his own but couldn't convert. So 9 match points lost. So sad. He played the match of his life for the first three and a half sets.
  21. Gionis 41 years old, in his 5th Olympics, looking to make the round of 16 for the first time. Up 3-1 10-3 and loses 9 points in a row... I don't see him turning this around now, what a choke...
  22. Our young swimmer Konstantinos Englezakis won't be competing in Tokyo due to injury He reached OQT in the men's 800 freestyle and also got invited for 200 and 400, but was only going to swim the 800 due to his injury but now he won't be able to be ready by then I am happy though that he got to travel to Tokyo and attend the Opening Ceremony where very few Greek athletes actually went to march in the parade
