  1. We can always count on Marina to have unique music videos
  2. Is it still going to be two flag bearers or back to one? We always pick people with Olympic history (though of course there are always rumours that someone more famous like Tsitsipas or Antetokounmpo will do it, which anyone who knows anything knows won't happen as long as there are Olympic medalists around). Of active gold medalists, for women we have Anna Korakaki and Katerina Stefanidi, for men we have Eleftherios Petrounias, Miltiadis Tentoglou, and Stefanos Ntouskos. Korakaki and Petrounias already did it. It will probably be Stefanidi and Tentoglou. I can't see Ntouskos doing it as the rowing competition starts early, and even still, Tentoglou is much more successful than him.
  3. And now his ex-wife (they divorced before they died), / volleyball player Ruxandra Dumitrescu has passed away at age 46 from cardiac arrest. She was originally from Romania but got Greek citizenship after many years playing in our women's league (17 in total but she got citizenship after 7 years), played for the Greek women's national team at Athens 2004 as well. They had a son together also, he is probably not even a teenager yet, so sad for him to grow up without parents...
  4. Wow so we have a girl Christina Linardatou who already won two fights in 60 kg. I had never heard of her and was surprised to see she had a Wikipedia page, so I clicked it and now have been researching her a lot. She is 36 yo and seemed to have a successful professional career, also has 30k+ followers on Instagram. There seems to be some drama with her not being invited back to professional boxing after having a baby, I will look into it more another time, but it seems like now that is why she is fighting for a place at the Olympics instead. Perhaps someone who knows more than me about boxing (I know nothing) can explain this better? It's confusing to me! It would be cool if she could qualify considering I had never heard her name until a few days ago and I always like it when Greek athletes who weren't on my radar end up on the Olympic team Also she was born in the Dominican Republic to a Greek father (who worked in the shipping industry so that explains how he got there) and a Dominican mother, but moved to Greece as a child. She also is with a Greek guy and had a child with him (I didn't see any evidence of a wedding on her Instagram page so I don't think they are married but I could be wrong).
  5. I always liked her but think it's weird she got less time than Sharapova, and also they should've just made it 18 months. Now it's sad that she could've played sooner but they didn't have the decision in time?! Anyways I'm happy to see her back, hopefully she will be in Paris as she had to miss both Rio and Tokyo...
  6. I'm working on it, I narrowed it down to 16 songs so I need another listen to get my top 12 and then possibly 1-2 more listens to get the order correct, I should have it within the next 20 hours or so.
  7. One more chance for the young Sofia Georgopoulou to lift an additional 10-15 kg or so, otherwise will not participate in weightlifting at the Olympics for the first time since 1956 Reminder that in 1996 we won the weightlifting medal table at the Olympics, and in 2000 we were second in the medal table...
  8. The first phase (26 match days) of 2023-24 Super League Greece is done, and the top 6 teams (out of 14) in the league now advance to the play-off round, while the other 8 go to the relegation round. 1. PAOK - 60 points 2. AEK - 59 points 3. Olympiacos - 57 points 4. Panathinaikos - 56 points 5. Aris - 42 points 6. Lamia - 34 points I don't ever remember the league being this competitive, with the top 4 teams really doing so well, anyone can take it! There will be 10 match days in the play-off round (all teams play each other twice), and whoever leads at the end will be the league winner. Usually it is decided before the last week or maybe there are 2 teams going to the end, but this year is really crazy!
  9. I guess we will see if the ATP website updates his W/L record
  10. Does Rublev still count as a semifinalist or is his result now invalid? He won't get any ranking points for this event. I'm surprised the incident wasn't mentioned here at all...
  11. First time since Paris 1997 that finished in the top 10 of the medal table at the World Indoor Championships!
  12. 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships: Gold: Miltiadis Tentoglou - men's long jump Bronze: Emmanouil Karalis - men's pole vault
  13. Isn't she dating the Belgian pole vaulter, Broeders?
  14. Karalis guaranteed a medal
  15. Karalis improved his SB (5.72) twice (5.75 and 5.85) today! He is a perfect example of someone who is able to bring their best to the big competitions, wow!
  16. Gold for Tselidis in men's 90kg and now he looks safe to make it to Paris!
  17. Our boxing federation posted 1h ago that she will not be able to compete in this event because she has a fever.
  18. Georgiadou really deserves to go to the Olympics, she was incredible during this Olympic cycle, winning medals at both World Championships that took place as well as other big events. So, so sad
  19. Easy to say considering this has already happened
  20. the biggest team with boxers in all 13 events, then each with 12. Obviously some countries already qualified boxers so that's why they have less, but still interesting to see us with so many. I'm sure most of them have no chance but it's a promising sign that we are at least trying to give young boxers more experience. I am sad that Pita isn't here, she was so close to qualifying for Tokyo and she was only 22 so I thought she'd have more chances, but now it seems like she stopped competing after that OQT where it came down to the last round
  21. I remember watching Tentoglou win gold as a young athlete, 20 years old, at the 2018 European Championships and the 2019 European Indoor Championships with such excitement. Now we expect the gold and anything less is a massive disappointment I've noticed this with many other sports/athletes who I support, it's more fun watching them rise, once they get to the top it's not as interesting.
  22. Georgiadou fell in the quarterfinals, Gkountoura in the round of 16. So if my calculations are correct, Georgiadou (154) is 23 points behind Gkountoura (177). The last chance will be in two weeks in Belgium. Here is what Georgiadou needs in order to qualify for the Olympics: -Win at least silver and have Gkountoura lose in the round of 64 -Win gold and have Gkountoura lose in the round of 16 or round of 32 It's very unlikely...
  23. Also happy with Gusin getting 7th in the women's high jump yesterday. 1.88 is nothing special for her but she's in a really good position to finally qualify for the Olympics (via ranking). She had injury problems which really hurt her chances for Rio and Tokyo, and she even said before this year that the Olympics weren't her main goal because something always goes wrong for her in Olympic years, so she didn't want to have high expectations, and now she is almost certain to qualify as long as she stays healthy. Very happy for her!
  24. It's gotten to the point where I don't even celebrate Tentoglou's gold medals anymore, it's just become the norm In typical Tentoglou fashion, he doesn't celebrate either and is actually angry that he only jumped 8.22 I just hope he can win another Olympic gold in Paris, I'm a little worried about it as he is bound to fail at some point, and to be honest an athlete like him is totally worth another Olympic gold so hopefully he can take his chances. Obviously he will still be the big favourite for gold but it won't be easy...
