  4. It will be very tough for us. Also home teams very rarely qualify from OQT, though we did it in 2008 (which was the last time we hosted and coincidentally the last time we qualified for OG)...
  5. Solid start for our boys with a 10-8 win against Hungary! Revenge for losing to them on penalties in the World Championships final last year We already qualified for Paris 2024 so there should be no pressure on us, and although we have an Olympic medal and four World Championships medals (and even four World League medals!), surprisingly our men's team has never won a European Championships medal! So the goal here is obviously to finally win a European medal. It would be a bonus if it's gold because we've never won a gold medal in anything at the senior level.
  6. Great start for our girls with a 14-12 win over Hungary. Giannopoulou was the unlikely hero with 4 goals, she is someone who we normally don't even expect to play much. We also won 25-8 today against Croatia which was expected. As the Netherlands and Spain are already qualified, it is between for the one Olympic ticket here (and the other two will have a chance at next month's World Championships). Also I want to mention that 35 yo Alexandra Asimaki is in our team, she is back after retiring in 2020, having a baby, becoming a coach, then becoming a player again and now she is here. Her inclusion in our team was important since Maria Myriokefalitaki got injured and can't compete.
  7. Well done to Mytilineou! Our first time participating in equestrian at the Olympics since 2004
  8. If you click on her profile, it still says Karachaliou represents Greece. Very strange.
  9. Ruse's grunt reminds me so much of Halep
  10. Hopefully so we can finish top 5, but it'll probably be or to push us down to 7th
  11. We were barely top 20 a few votes ago and now tied for 11th (not including the 9 points we just got from Lithuania) Hopefully we can finish in the top 10, it would only be our second time ever in any TAISC/TOISC after last year's TOISC when we were top 5.
  12. Same here, but it's makedonas (male) or makedonissa (female), I don't think we are referring to the same 'Macedonia' when we say that
  13. It's funny, because people often say that Greek surnames and Lithuanian surnames sound similar For example, they have the Sabonis' in basketball, we have Sabanis who won Olympic medals in weightlifting...
  14. It's happening for Greece too, Marina Satti who is currently representing us in TOISC will now also be representing us in ESC 2024
  15. Also I want to say, that after the match he stayed and gave autographs and took photos with everyone, he did not say no to anyone and also he secretly donated 100.000 euros for the disaster relief for the floods in Greece (which was later revealed by other sources). The floods also were very bad mainly in the area where his father was born and raised, which are his roots, and his ancestral town was affected very badly so I'm sure it was also personal for him. He gets a lot of criticism and has made some mistakes but I believe he is a good person and a good representative of our country when there are not many of them who are famous worldwide (he is the third-most followed Greek on Instagram, not just from sports but in general - only Antetokounmpo and Tsimikas have more). Unfortunately, he is not always portrayed that way. They always find something to complain about, like how he has residency in Monte Carlo which is a huge scandal meanwhile Djokovic, Medvedev, Zverev and many other tennis players also do it and I wonder if they get the same criticism in their countries about it.
  16. It seems like Georgiadou and Gkountoura always find themselves on the podium. It's really a shame that only one will be able to go to the Olympics. I know I am biased but FIE should really change the Olympic qualification procedures. So unfair that Greece with two fencers in the top 4 will only be able to send one fencer to the Games but other countries will get 3 spots...
