  1. Chinese Basketball will restart at 20th June adopting tournament system in two cities without spectator during the whole season including playoffs. PS the tournament system is from google translation, if anyone knows the correct naming pls correct me, thx.
  2. I think the reporter and cameraman are both physically ok (not heavily injured). I saw the live video clip in their reporting sight and the anchors were astonished. The Australian PM already protest to the US embassy (most likely no follow-up). Not only this but also a lot of video clips could be used for authoritarian country propaganda. I saw CNN, Vice, Russian, UK and Australian journalists attacked by police already.
  3. I mean not from the point of view of weapon producers but from the point of view of an outsider country government. For example, what's the benefit if US involve in the local conflict of some random middle east country? Maybe the US-backed local force will win the civil war eventually and a so-called democracy country established. Again, so what? What US can get? people may not be grateful and the local government with a high chance go corruption and collapse soon and fight again.
  4. Because war is a waste of money and getting nothing back in his businessman eyes. This is somehow relief for the rest of world.
  5. it may be true before the last election as no one truly knows him. It turns out we are way too naive. he truly play politics like business to bargain with allies and rivals. But as long as it didn't meet his expectation, he would sanction anyone without hesitation and mercy.
  6. I suspect less than 2 weeks maybe in 1 week. I don't see the riots can change anything except venting emotions. What government could do? Arrest the police, commit investigation and claim some oral reforms. Then this thing will pass. The deeper bias will not just vanish by protest and paper rules.
  7. Maybe by African votes? I am not sure, just a blind guess.
  8. China no. He started the trade war and a potential cold war. We pray every single day for the coming 5 months that Biden would win. At least he's rational.
  9. Totally understandable. It's different ideology or "political philosophy", but this is what China gonna do. By no means government will allow a bad policeman causing such a big national chaos. It's politically, economically and healthily incorrect/cost-ineffiecient and government could correct this like a parent by forcing apology and forcing victim's family accepting compensation and the apology.
  10. In my memory Persian called China "Qin" or sound like "Chin", it's the name of a of very remote ancient dynasty of China around 2000 years ago. Oldest name of all languages I guess.
  11. It's my first time to hear a Bakersfield news for past 10 years. I spent a summer vacation there at 108 degree temperature when I was 16 and feeling weird that once again hearing this city name is because of riot.
  12. @MHSN According to the latest committee conference resolution, there are total 31 Olympic sports and 9 non-Olympic sports, total events/gold medals around 460-470. 31 Olympics sports - no skateboarding and surfing (including sport climbing, karate and softball/baseball ) 9 non-Olympics sports -Wushu, Sepaktakraw, Kurash, Jujitsu, cricket, Board games, Roller skating, Kabaddi and squash I think sports are basically confirmed but events are not totally confirmed yet. source: https://baijiahao.baidu.com/s?id=1644381703345691384&wfr=spider&for=pc
  13. I will try searching in Chinese but I guess they might not update anything during pandemic.
  14. Do you mean the list of sports in the Games or how many matches of each sport? I don't quite get it in English.
  15. I can't quite understand the mechanism that US sanctions Hong Kong by treating it as rest part of China, ie more export regulations and raise tariff, generally speaking by hurting Hong Kong's economy. So Hong Kong people become the poorest ones, lost freedom of speech by Beijing and lost jobs/money by Washington. They protest hardly and lose anything they wanted. Eventually Singapore become the winner as they never protest and yell.
  16. I wonder why Trump can make many decisions on his own including some major ones like tax/tariff policy and quitting international memberships? Isn't it supposed to be passed by some procedure?
  17. Since USA quit, China doesn't have to put that much money any longer to gain the position. Less invest, more power.
  18. I saw the live video. I don't think the reporter disobeying the police order. He is quite calm and cooperative during the live. Police ask them to move and they are going to and then he got arrested. I would say it's the police overreacted and CNN is not intentionally playing the racial card.
  19. If it's in China, government will immediately arrest the policemen and make them apologize in public to get forgiveness of victims' family. I also think it's the most effective and efficient solution, why not the government do so? If the policemen proved innocent, they can be released after this issue over.
  20. I wonder what will happen to the policemen involved in the arrest and common people's opinion on the protests/riots? @Olympian1010
  21. No it will not. Because it gain the NOC during colony period and the border still exist. Most western countries are visa free to Hong Kong but not Mainland China. With the same reason, China proposes Macau to become NOC member, but Macau failed to get it during colony period, so it’s very hard after the hand-over. Basically Macau athletes are not capable to win any trials to represent PRC attending Olympics. BTW China always claims Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan affairs are internal affairs, it's not a new saying. The only thing that may changes is USA will raise tax on Hong Kong goods as it "lose" autonomous status and claiming the sanction will help Hong Kong people.
  22. This strategy is very difficult to adopt in democratic country like USA. First, the credibility rating of Africa is very low, the money you lending is very risky of debt default, the taxpayers and opposition party will jump out and yell it's a waste of money and betrayer of people. Second, western countries like playing as "God" and seeing the loan as "God's gift" and expecting receivers following lots of rules and making commitment like democracy reform etc. If Chinese government ask me to vote I would say no to lending money to Africa as I hurt very much as taxpayer, So I expect democratic country would definitely so no.
  23. The strategy is very easy. Lend them money with no interest or just give money for free without political requirements ( human right, corruption inspection blah blah). Africa is very eager to get money to build road and bridge etc, while western world think they are unqualified to get them and incapable to pay back. And then China lend the money and claiming I will not monitor how you use it. I see none of the African country could resist it.
  24. Macau is a model and China wants Hong Kong exactly to be like that. Protesters will eventually give in but not directly give in, still a long show to see.
  25. China wants Hong Kong to be Singapore but Hong Kong protesters want Hong Kong to be Taiwan. It's the main contradiction, so the show will continue and last a long time.
