  1. I see it as Felix correcting IAAF's mistake, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
  2. Honestly it made sense, even ignoring Felix. There's no reason why "obvious doubles" should be overlapped.
  3. Congrats to France. This Olympics would have been good experience for Canada, hopefully this won't derail our chance for a medal in 2020.
  4. According to SwimSwam Haiti will select its first female swimmer though she didn't swim at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships nor does she have the B standard. She will compete with Frantz Dorsainvil. Other swimmers from Latin America Ben Hockin Karen Riveros Lani Cabrera Alex Sobers Mikel Schreuders Ally Ponson Jordan Augier Also, :TRI Dylan Carter received an invite for his B standard (most likely men's 100m freestyle), a woman will probably not be added unless FINA wants to ignore 2015 World Aquatics Championship as a requirement.
  5. Probably, unless some tripartite nation withdraws. UWW and IOC are in a tough spot, might as well take the easier route and give 1 extra quota to wrestling. Besides, in tennis they already will compete with more than what they were given.
  6. There are a few reasons for this, but a major reason is the current line-up of sports isn’t appealing to that region. Throw in sports like cricket or kabaddi and the number of athletes from that region will increase quite a bit.
  7. Not too surprised about the ruling, the only thing stopping him was getting the decision done on time.
  8. Looking at the qualification document you can’t have 1 A standard and 1 B standard swimmer so only one athlete will compete in the women’s 100m butterfly. The only way for both swimmers to participate is if Vourna participates in the 100m fly and Ntountounaki participates in the 200m fly (assuming she receives an invite).
  9. Too bad some of our top players didn't come. If we somehow defeat France no doubt a lot of them will try to get on the team, which is a shame for the ones that actually did the work.
  10. Looks like Cook Islands got a special approval to let Wesley Robert compete without competing at the 2015 World Aquatics Championship (His B standard definitely wouldn't be enough for him to qualify normally). Link
  11. To get a wild card in field (and road) events you need the approval of the technical committee which also takes into account the number of athletes participating in an event. Both events are already above the target number (long jump already has 40+) and that's without taking into account other potential wild card entries.
  12. Update (Add) Palau* Palau declined its quota won in judo so they are back on. If you include tripartite quotas we are now down to 13 nations which have yet to qualify anyone.
  13. To be fair Palau's Jennifer Anson hasn't competed since 2014 according to IJF
  14. Nations are beginning to announce B standard qualified athletes. Luxembourg's Julie Meynen has qualified in the women's 50m and 100m free. It doesn't help us much since she was first and second respectively on the eligible athlete list. Link (in French)
  15. Raonic took advantage of Djokovic losing and has reached the semi-finals for the second time in his career at Wimbledon
  16. While some nations had tougher standards I think in the end only a handful missed out at most. For example in 2016 in Canada the swimmer must break break the A standard during the trials yet we only went from 31 to 30 athletes. France actually went from 28 in 2012 to 30. My prediction is that we'll see around 5 per event.
  17. Doing some number crunching. If we assume all non-announced teams add two relay-only athletes per relay and all eligible nations take a wild card then we won't have any athletes qualified through the B (OST) standard. In fact we would be just over the limit. Of course that won't happen, but it looks like unless you just missed the A standard you are not going to the Olympics.
  18. Germany won't announce their swimming team until July 8th (after the German Open) so don't expect FINA to reveal anything before then.
  19. I counted Hausding under 3m since he's competing there individually. I guess things are fine
  20. True, but that was because one athlete competed in both events. IIRC 34 athletes still competed in the women's platform while here we only have 33 competing in the men's platform
  21. Even if you give South Korea's quota to the 10m the men's 3m has one more quota than it should have had.
  22. Puerto Rico did really well against Serbia, did Serbia rest some of its players towards the end?
  23. But they didn't say when they will do it ;). If China, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden can all submit their final teams (and Hungary, if anyone new qualified on top of their 29 announced) we can probably start constructing it ourselves.
  24. The deadline for all entries is July 18th so they have lots of time I imagine (hope) that they have at least told the federations about the wild cards.
  25. I wouldn't hold your breath, FINA hasn't even released the qualified athlete list for diving. I'm hoping we'll get it over the next two weeks.
