I thought I saw Ole Einar Bjorndalen amongst the 50 people in the crowd
Crowd is not huge, but all the Ethiopian and Kenyan fans give a lot of atmosphere. This is normal for the Doha Diamond League - there must be a lot of East Africans working there.

BBC says that Jakob is confirmed in the 5000m.

Wasn't someone saying earlier that Saudia Arabla were boycotting? There is a Saudi athlete starting in the 5000m.

This one I did not get. What the hell in North Macedonia? I guess I missed some world political changes? :-D Am aware of just Macedonie :-D
It's a complicated political thing involving the Greeks. They don't want to have a Slavonic country called simply Macedonia because Macedonia was part of Ancient Greece and I think it is a local region in Greece as well.

His name is Steve Hooker. Which ironically would be a much better name for a gay actor, than Hooper.
I will see your Steve Hooker and raise you Rod Hooker.

Holly Bradshaw entering the Pole Vault at 4.6m. A risk but she must feel confident
I remember a few years back the Aussie Vaulter Steve Hooper won the World Championship with just two vaults, one in qualifying, one in the final. Had an ankle injury.

The fact is short. Paweł Ulbrych, the commentator of Polish Eurosport, aptly described it: "Now we have to learn geography, because that is how the praeliminative course should be described.".
In Britain we know where all these countries are because we used to rule them.

Do you also like 100m elimination runs and admiring athletes from selfish countries? Because I love it.
Yes, always good to see how Afghan sprinting is getting on. Not last this time, so progress!

By the way, nothing confirmed yet about this thing being caused by visa problems, but one can logically guess there's a pretty big chance of it, there were definitely more Africans supposed to participate than only the South Africans..
I’ve noticed that the African Nations with well-known reputations in cycling - like Eritrea, Rwanda, Ethiopia - have got riders. Also some African riders who are probably already British citizens or residents. But there are some nations we have had trouble with in the past where athletes have been given visas for big events and have disappeared without even competing. So if your list includes Sierra Leone, Cameroon & Nigeria....

Know what...I don’t think the peleton realise that there is still an American off the front here. No race radios.

Promising race by Dowsett. Don’t follow much cycling outside major events. Do GB have their strongest riders at these champs?
Dowsett’s our best TT specialist outside of Thomas (who hasn’t really prepared) & Froome, off sick.

Don’t worry, people, Britain has plenty of rain and will not run out of orange traffic cones!

They need hi-viz clothes what with all the blizzards they get in Mexico. Well, volcanic eruptions anyway.

Because I find athletics to be one of the worst sports to make a team event out of it. Putting hammer throwers and steeplechase runners together with sprinters and high jumpers just makes me feel like it's all way too random,
Completely disagree, team athletics are great! Two of the best events on the calendar are the European Team Champs and the NCAA finals: makes for extremely exciting viewing because every single performance counts. Often the hero that wins the competition is the unknown hammer thrower who throws a 65m PB to get 7th rather than the predicted 12th place and not the superstar gold medallist sprinter who gets a predicted win.
Most exciting athletics event I have seen this year was the four-way battle to avoid relegation in the First Division European Team Champs.

That will be Geo-blocked in some countries. It’s also on the BBC Website if you can get to that.

I enjoyed watching it, but overall the standard is like First Round Heats in a major Championships. But good practice for athletes before they go to training camps.

Would depend on the advice given to the teams when the Championships started. Although you see people using cars for drafting in all the weekly races, if the UCI had said in the technical meeting that the rules would strictly applied here, then it’s the team’s fault for not telling their riders.
