  1. It’s basically the leftovers from the lightweight four. Some nations make the LW 4 a big focus.
  2. Luckily no rain in München for the climbing.
  3. And it’s raining. Everyone will get wet.
  4. Heh heh heh deal out big slaps to everyone in the Triathlon.
  5. Honestly, you can smell the desparation from here.
  6. Geez, some pretty shoddy - transitioning in the triathlon. Lots of time lost for some.
  7. So the Leiden bid to stage a Mountain Bike WC race went the same way as the Alpine Skiing bid, huh?
  8. You still have Six Days, so it wouldn’t completely die off, just reduced to something like cyclo-cross.
  9. Anyway, the most important moment in the history of every new track is the first crash & for Munich Messe that honour went to the Women’s Sprint Team, so well done girls!
  10. One point of the Champs is to allow as many swimmers as possible to establish world rankings, so they allow lots more athletes to compete than the Olympics, Worlds etc.
  11. They’re very expensive to maintain. Track cycling went out of fashion about 30 years ago & many old ones were lost. Recently it has become important again, but too late for the old tracks.
  12. It is not so mini. 200m against the usual 250m. There’s no fixed size - 180m to 330m all exist.
  13. Yeah, that’s what the BBC commentators thought. Funny thing is, Labradors were originally bred in Scotland for duck hunting - ie going into the water & finding birds that had just been shot.
  14. I hope one of Katinka Hosszu’s sponsors is a company that makes metal cleaning products.
  15. In the olden days a wolf was the symbol of Rome. This time: a labrador.
  16. That’s your problem with outdoor pools, of course. Crowds are good, but when there isn’t an in the race…..
  17. What’s more, a pop-up temporary track!
  18. Again, BBC iPlayer if you can get it.
  19. I think that’s a good point. If you’re going to have a 4700 athlete overall cap, then the small nations will miss out. As we know in many sports, it is actually important for several reasons to be ranked 10 not 11, 19 not 21 etc etc
  20. Here’s the BBC story. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-sports/62505950
  21. Yeah, same as in . The BBC don’t have the best stuff anymore, so go full blast with what they still have.
  22. Roman pool has a view of the Vatican. According to my map of Ancient Rome, the swimming pool was also an Olympic swimming pool in Roman times, but of course it was only 100 pedes long in those days.
  23. the BBC is doing a lot. The Worlds in Aquatics & Athletics were both quite low key, but the Commonwealths got big coverage and this is going to be Part III of the trilogy for them. Cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon always get good coverage as well. Canoeing & Climbing don't have so much of a profile. And it definitely is being presented as a single entity, not as a random collection of things going on at the same time.
