  1. @intoronto which athletes have surpassed the Athletics Canada standard? Also, entry list for the Paavo Nurmi Games on June 18 is now out. Andre DeGrasse and Jerome Blake in the men’s 100m, Alysha Newman in women’s pole vault, and Camryn Rogers in women’s hammer throw.
  2. Completely unrelated to the game, but I will say this. How are all of the posts I’m seeing on Instagram calling this match a must win to keep our Olympic hopes alive? Like we could lose in 3, and would still qualify with a win in 4 over the Netherlands. Anyways I’m pleased, best game from the in a while.
  3. Small correction actually, let’s say Canada does beat Japan (not happening but hypothetically speaking), wins against Netherlands and France by any margin would be enough.
  4. winning a set against doesn’t really do much for them… only two sets does. A win doesn’t do much for them either. Even if they win a set against Japan, they’ll still have to beat Netherlands in 3/4 (way more likely)
  5. No matter what we have to beat the Netherlands. If we win two sets against Japan, win or lose, we’d put ourselves in a great position to qualify with any win over Netherlands. Otherwise, we’ll need to beat them 3-1.
  6. sweep despite Netherlands playing out of their minds. -7 points for Netherlands (approximately), which cuts their lead to about 10.5 points (approximately) over Canada for the final Olympic quota. If Japan win in 3/4 against Canada later tonight, Canada will need at least a 3-1 win over Netherlands. If Japan win in 5, Canada will need any win against Netherlands. Basically, what I’m saying is that it’ll come down to the head to head match. Watch all of these calculations be for nothing
  7. Carlini with another dime of a set.
  8. Yeah that settles it. Carlini will be US’s starting setter at the Olympics. Just phenomenal!
  9. @CCB Netherlands is playing incredibly well today. You should have no problem beating us tomorrow
  10. JWO On fire this 1st set, she’s digging everything!

Random fun fact about me, that I thought I’d share after watching the women’s long jump final, as it brought back some memories Back in grade 7 (so 12 years old), I did long jump, and I wasn’t half bad at it! At our school athletics “championships” (not sure what to call it) day, I won my grade title with a best mark of 2.51m! (keep in mind my age…)
  21. Iapichino moves into the silver medal position with 6.94m.
