  1. v. for the men’s CAVB quota, and v. for the women’s CAVB quota
  2. Wouldn’t use the word collapsed (not like they were up 16-11 in a set and lost or anything), but yeah definitely disappointing that China had two in the final and neither won a quota, especially playing at home.
  3. CAV women’s quota to So happy for Ishii/Akiko
  4. Insane foot volley from Gabi
  5. First of all, no I am not happy with how the Olympic qualification period has gone for Canada… lots of near misses 1. Well thank you for reminding me about how our women’s volleyball team didn’t qualify… but I’d say women’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, women’s volleyball. Jokes aside, my other two picks would be Pamela Ware/Mia Vallee in women’s 3m synchro diving, and our men’s archery team. But there’s so many I could put with Cody Young in surfing, our men’s rugby team, and some missed chances in rowing. Erin Brooks, was nowhere close to a quota in surfing (she only had one chance, due to citizenship issues), but she would’ve been a medal hope had she qualified. 2. Karate, squash, baseball/softball in. Breaking, artistic swimming, modern pentathlon, equestrian, and rhythmic gymnastics out. I’d also add some more to other sports. 3. 50km race walk instead of the mixed team relay, separate the boulder and combined disciplines in sport climbing (edit: actually, I’d rather allow a maximum of 2 individual athletes instead of 1 in sports like judo, boxing, taekwondo etc), and make the Olympic programme 3 weeks instead of 2.
  6. Guess we’ll have to see I think it’s possible with Grimes and Forrester, but they aren’t consistent enough to be marginal favourites for medals.
  7. I’d take everything they say with a grain of salt, but a SwimSwam commentator actually said that Ledecky is at least partially tapered. As much as I hate to admit it, her times, although still ridiculously quick, have been getting slower and slower throughout the last couple of years. She’s 27, her age might be catching up to her…
  8. Silver is wide open too IMO. Grimes sure on paper would be the favourite, but she went 4:35 at Trials… Gorbenko winning a medal would likely require a massive PB though.
  9. Any streams for the Asian/African Qualifiers??
  10. NORCECA Men’s Semifinals No upsets here too, but surprised to see take to 3 (valiant comeback effort from the Dominican Republic down 8-2 in set 3 also, but unfortunately couldn’t pull it out) v. v.
  11. Well yeah, it’s pretty likely that 3 US women will qualify through the Road to Paris, but given that it’s not official yet I decided not to include it.
  12. Provisional Olympic team after Day 2 (12 athletes) Men Track 10000m - Grant Fisher, Woody Kincaid, Nico Young Field Shot Put - Ryan Crouser, Joe Kovacs, Payton Otterdahl Combined Decathlon - Heath Baldwin, Harrison Williams, Zack Ziemek Women Track 100m - Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry 4x100m Relay - Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry
  13. HOLY SHIT 10.71 WL in the women’s 100m for Sha’Carri Richardson
  14. Wikipedia isn’t the most reliable of sources though, I’d use my numbers (on the first page of this thread) which are way more accurate. Andresscu and Raonic might take PR’s as well, so I’d add tennis to my list. Wait a minute, why do they have Andresscu as qualified? Not sure why Raonic isn’t on the list either, he’s expressed his interest in going to the Olympics recently.
  15. 49.71 in the women’s 400m semifinals for Kaylyn Brown Alexis Holmes will have to wait to see if her 50.19 is good enough for one of the non-automatic Q’s. Edit: She survives.
  16. Just to recap, we only have remaining chances to add to our total in athletics and beach volleyball? Surfing through reallocation? Might fail to reach 300 athletes
  17. Provisional Olympic team after Day 1 (3 athletes) US will send as big of a team as possible, so should three athletes not reach the entry standard in an event (likely for the women’s 10000m and triple jump), they would select the highest ranked athletes on the Road to Paris. This article does a good job at explaining it. Men Track 10000m - Grant Fisher, Woody Kincaid, Nico Young
  18. Katie Ledecky with an 8:14.12 in the women’s 800m freestyle at the US Olympic Trials… Looked visibly disappointed with that time
  19. NORCECA Women’s Semifinals All results went as expected, no upsets. v. v.
  20. 2:06.79 for Kate Douglass, and 2:07.86 for Alex Walsh in the women’s 200m individual medley at the US Olympic Trials. McIntosh went from 1st to 3rd most favoured within a couple of weeks. Honestly, that might be good for her, there’s lots of pressure that gets put on yourself when you come into an event as the favourite.
  21. What has he done at the X games? FYI, Chalifour was 15th at a WC in May 2024
